I recieved my first benchmade today,,,950-1 osborne rift. wow, what a knife.
Im really impressed with the fit and finish.. the heavy weight is excellent. It opens and closes super smoothe. the blade is serious, I have a question about the g10 scales,,,they have a chaulky feel to them that leaves a chaulky feel on my hands..is this normal..will it wash off or wear off in time..
I own about 85 knives,,,but have never felt this on a handle before..any rift owners experience this:confused:

The Rift looks like a solid blade... having several other Axis' myself, I've had my eye on that one for awhile. Good call

I've had about a half dozen BM's and the 950 is by far the smoothest opening action of the bunch. Another thing; not sure if I just got lucky or it's the steel but after reprofiling to 30 degrees inclusive, then the strop, it is one of my SHARPEST folders.

Nice polished edge now!

Another personal preference... I took a ceramic rod to the edges to put a slight bevel on the rather sharp G10 edges. A little bit of WD-40 after knocking the edge off and they are like new again.

My Rift is my fav BM. It also came sharper than any other BM I've ever gotten except my Ritters. After a stropping, it's on a par with my Spydercos. The RIFT for a BM brand and my H&K 14210 and 14205 are the only three BM products that I carry anymore. I really hope they do some sprint runs with the Rift in different steels and handle materials. I missed out on the M4 but may try to pick one up off the boards a little later.

I noticed the feel of the G10 as well, but it doesn't particularly bother me. Livin' in the woods with 5 dogs, I got more stuff on my hands to worry about than how G10 feels :D

Congrats the Rift is a stout knife and like skimo mentioned its Purdy too! You will love th AXIS Lock..

Benchmade's G-10 used to be pretty slick. People complained about it for years. "Chalky" is actually a step forward.

The 950 is my favorite Benchmade. I was lucky enough to get an M4 version. Great steel!

I had the chance to handle a Rift today at a dealer. It's an excellent knife.

Can't get used to thumb studs, though. Besides I was rather distracted by the case of Spydercos on offer (Ti Salsa, Tattoo Dfly, Gayle Bradley and Hossom FB among others.)

Quite possibly the best knife Benchmade has ever produced. I have had one in my pocket the last few years, every single day. I also got the M4 version and I thinned it down to 11 deg per side and now carry it every day.

I would be content if this was my last knife. I will carry other knives to supplement it so others get carried, but always have one in my pocket. I have lots of boxes filled with new knives that sit unused because this one is so good for me. It now takes a very special knife to get into rotation and I think the last one was the S90V Manix 2 or maybe the ZDP/CF Stretch.
