Recluse handle compared to Patch?

Hey, FB experts.

New here and to FB. Recently picked up a Patch on a recent FB Friday (Seax Tasker led to Patch led to Carver :D).

That Patch handle is just phenomenal for me. Great choked up a bit like the other two, but better for me in more grips than most any knife handle around (40 - 45 years in the game).

Just wow.

So my question is whether the Recluse, which appears to be the Patch's big brother would likely give me the same experience? I have L/XL hands. Any input from one in the know from experience prior to a purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any responses in advance!

And after the Recluse....the Leuku
Few years old but a great comparison/review from Comprehensivist Comprehensivist

There are two size categories that I make a lot of. One is the 'full bushcraft size knife'. These feature a 4" blade and 4.5" handle. There are a LOT of models that fall into this category including the Recluse. The hiking sized knife category which includes the HB and Patch knife has a 3.5" blade and 4" handle.

FYI.

Thank you, good Sir!

Nice choice on the Patch Kenneth F Huls Kenneth F Huls . It’s a very versatile model for its size.

A couple of my first knife reviews back in 2014 were of the Leuku and Patch. I later added a Recluse as well. I wrote a fair amount of favorable observations about all of these models back in the day, including a couple that J jb33 linked above.

Here are a few of my older photos that were either lost or blurred-out in the infamous P-buck-it extortion move. It’s a shame so much valuable Blade Forums history has been lost because of that company.

This was my old Patch in 1/8” O1 SFT with Evergreen burlap over black & yellow pinstripes.

I used that Patch quite frequently for woodwork...

...and food prep.

The Patch was one of my old pal Jessie “J-Dog” favorite knives because it frequently smelled like food.

Here are some family comparison photos of the Patch, Recluse, and Leuku.

Patch over Recluse:

Recluse over Leuku:

You can’t go wrong with any of these models. The handle design fits a wide range hand sizes by virtue of the squarer pommel shape that doesn’t shorten the critical bottom length of the handle like other makers’ designs that feature a radical forward rake which cramps your fingers.

Good luck with your search for what’s next.

Thank you very much, Comprehensivist! I had read the linked reviews and thoughts and enjoyed your insights. Adding these fine pics now was a real treat for me and those size comps were quite helpful.

My Patch is Emerald Burlap similar to your Recluse below the bolster and your Leuku. Being a green "micarta" fan, you have intensified even further my desire for a similar trio. I concur with your thoughts on the handle. It is phenomenal, and everyone who handles it feels the same way. I cannot stop using it, to be honest. If you still have and ever want to part with either (or both) of those other two, I believe I know where you could make someone quite happy ; )

Many thanks
