Could one of you people please recommend a strop that I can buy that is allready loaded with compound over the internet that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Most of my knives are about 4 inches, the blade that is.

I Thank all that reply,
Britt

i just read your email and sent a reply. with the paper wheels you dont need a strop. the paper buffing wheel works 10 times better than a strop and is a lot faster. save your money ;):D.

I third the knivesplus strop, much better than the belt and polishing compound I was using...neat handmade product, great price!...

What paper wheel? If it's faster then a strop then it sounds interesting. Post a link please.

Paper wheels look like they are for me;). How much do the kits usually cost?

Is it possible to use an ordinary leather belt, the kind that keeps your Levis up, as a usefull strop? Did anyone read Frederick Forsyth's THE DOGS OF WAR?

Uh, yeah ... I think I might have read that one. ;) But unless you're a total bad-ass like Cat Shannon, I think a 'dedicated' strop charged with compound will probably work better.

You don't have to use compound, and yes, your belt will work fine.
There is a difference between stropping and polishing your edge.

Welcome to Blade Forums Brittany!
I bought my first strop from Hand American, but found much more satisfaction with making my own. I picked up a stack of 2x4 spacer slats from Home Depot, (sweet talk the guy in the orange apron, they'll give 'em to you for free), bought a bunch of old belts at garage sales, got a bottle of wood glue. Measure, cut, glue... wait 24 hrs to dry, load with your favorite compound. I got mine from Derrick at KSF, the black and green Bark River compounds.
