I'm looking for an inexpensive, perhaps used, multi bladed traditional knife to take apart.

What I want to learn is to make a multi bladed knife a single bladed knife. While doing so I wouldn't mind to learn how to replace scales.

Why you ask? I enjoy building, exploring, and creating. I'm also trying cut back at new knife purchases, so making a new knife out of an old would let me enjoy more knives without going bankrupt.

Do you guys and girls have any recommendation?

I'd take a look at Rough Riders, theyre fairly cheap and well constructed so they would probably survive a disassembly. That or I would just check out pawn shops and see if there were any cheap old slipjoints around.

For purposes of using a cheap knife, rough rider may be a good choice.

Also, a personal favorite of mine to modify is the TL-29 (electrician knife). They were made plentifully, and if you get the same manufacturer, you have a 99% chance that the parts are interchangeable. The individual parts are pretty symmetrical, and pretty basic in construction.

They are solid, and the steel is good.

x2 on the electrician's knife. I found an old Camillus and reworked it into a single blade.

Is TL29 what one or all knife manufacturers called an electricians knife? When looking for one, is there anything I should be aware of?

Camillus is probably the most common in numbers out there. If you buy a used one, try to get a full blade

There are no shops anywhere near me that sell the kind of knives I need for this project, so I need to find them on line. Ebay is the only place I think I can use to find retired knives.

That would be your best option.

You answered your own quetion on buying the knife, go on Youtube to see how it's done.

There are many Rough Rider knife kits, to include lock backs and multiple-blade traditional, all for less than $10.00. Just Google Rough Rider knife kits.

Let's see if we can't find a better venue for this...
