I'm a complete noob to bladeforum and the world of knives on a hole. I was hoping someone could show me where I could find some good reading material with the basics/ all you need to know about knives. One of my friends showed me a few of her knives last week, and I feel like this would be a great thing to pair with my archery.

Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, 3rd edition or earlier.

Should be required reading here.

Welcome to the Forums, Crowndullahan! :)

I don't think there is an easy 'all-you-need-to-know' guide for knives, but this website is certainly a wealth of information if you know where to look.

I believe the first step is up to you: figure out what you want a knife for and the things you'll want to do with it. A small pocket knife won't help much if you want to clear brush, but you might not want to carry a machete into work so you can peel an orange at lunch. Once you have a use in mind, you'll need to think about how much you want to spend on a knife. There are many excellent options in almost every price-range.

After that, you'll be better equipped to search for the information you need or what specific questions to ask. Use the search function, read lots, watch YouTube videos on knives and maintenance, and have fun!

There are so many variables when it comes to knives. There is no real "catch all" knowledge base.

I suggest getting a folder, a fixed blade, and a spyderco sharpmaker. For your first knives, I think you can't go wrong with a Spyderco Delica VG-10. Fixed blade, something from Becker or ESEE. Really depends on your budget.
