I have some fairly small fixed blades - Timberline Lightfoot Pitbull, CRKT Carson F4 and Hawk K-AT - but until the BM Activator, I never really loved a fixed blade in this size range. But my 211 is just great.

I'd like to take another look at small FBs. What do some of you love?

I'm interested in small, but not necessarily tiny. I want carryable, ergonomic, general purpose, solid little knives that won't freak the sheeple too badly.

What's out there that smaller than a Ronin, but a little bigger than the 211? I'm guessing I'm going to be looking at some AG Russell pieces? Maybe some Mokis or other Sekis? Or maybe some neat little Scandi piece from Ragnar?

I'm not looking for a boot knife or a hold out.

And I don't think I'm ready to spring for a Dozier yet. :D

What should I definitely consider?

Bark River makes some really nice knives in similar sizes. Check out the Mini Skinner:

I love the Activators too: I have the 210 and 211. Mike Snody's custom knives are very nice looking!

Graham Brothers mid-tech Razel sounds like it would be in that size range. I find the chisel tip comes in quite handy at times.

You are all horrible, evil people, who are going to make me spend too much money. :)

Please, go on. :D

I thought I saw somewhere that BM is coming out with a larger version of the 211 called appropriately the 211+. Maybe check that one out.

+1 Bark River. Ever since I got a Mini Canadian and a hip pocket sheath, I rarely carry folders anymore.

+1 on the Bark Rivers. Also, if you want to spend less than a Dozier but still go hand-made, Gene Ingram makes the model 4 that is comparable to a straight personal in size but more refined and polished. A great little knife.

Small fixed blades (under 7") are my favorites. Look at the BRK Mini Canadian and AG Russell Woodswalker in production knives. In customs, Eddie White (Shadowknives) makes super little carry blades in drop point and warncliffe. Don't overlook the superb work of Charlie May (Fireant), and Gene Ingram (SLK). Other makers also sell great knives here on the Forums. You can't go wrong with a small fixed blade. Bill.

Check out Charles May's knives. I have one of his Fireant's. It is a fantastic little FB. And I would also suggest you check out Gene Ingram as well. I have one of his Pocket Hippo's on order.

I have to get one of those pocket hippos! I have 2 of Gene's knives and I think they are about as good as a fixed blade can get. Great customer service, too.

They came out with a lager version of the 211 it's the 201+ I have one it's a great little knife.

How small do you want to go?

Try the BRKT Blackwater Boot Knife. Blade 2.9" OAL 6.125":

The BRKT Woodland Special. Blade 3" OAL 6.8":

The BRKT OMF. Blade 2.6" OAL 5.5":

These are all I have for small FB's in the range you specified. Anything else made by Bark River in that size range would be excellent as well.

I have a Fireant. I also have on order on of Gene's Pocket Hippo's as well. It will be here next year.

I've got a Bark River Mini-Canadian and I'm very happy with it.

The best small fixed blade bargain I've found is the Brusletto Balder. It's scandi grind 2" blade is Sandvic stainless, with a birch handle. It's a fantastic wood carving knife. Ragnar carries it. $17!!!
