Recomendation for Fixed Blade EDC

I'm looking to procure another fixed blade knife. I want it to be relatively small so that I can EDC it, maybe even in my pocket.

I'm looking for something that would hold up well in a SD scenario but also be a useful tool. I've been looking at the RAT-3 and love it but want to see if anyone has a better suggestion.

Thanks for the help.

You might want to look through the "what's your favorite little fixed blade" thread in this forum, if you haven't already.

Check out andy- fiddleback on the forums. He's got some really good small EDC fixed blade styles. Also see about Ray Laconico and Dan Koster. I think all three have subforums in the knifemakers' section.

Check the "maker's" for sale forum in the exchange.

EDIT....Along with Koyote's suggestions also look at Stomper's forum. (JK Handmade knives).

He makes a few small fixed models.

Two of mine..

3" scale to tip, 6 1/2" OAL ,1/8" thick O1, convex edge

2 3/4" scale to tip,6" OAL , also 1/8" O1 convex.

Both carry well in the pocket,or belt.

Custom's from our forum Makers are very reasonably priced.

Id go with the rc 3 from rat cutlry over the RAT from Ontario. The RC 3 has a much better warranty and it is a better knife imo. Check out the rat cutlery forums under the manufacturer section.

The Red one is a Dozier Personal D2 steel and the Orange one is a B.Goode Personal custom O1 steel. Both are fantastic knives and fit in my pocket easily in their sheaths. I have been swapping between the two as EDC for a while now. You can probably get a Dozier from the A.G. Russell catalog but I'm not sure which models are available. Brian Goodes' waiting list is looong.

I would sure check out the makers on this forum before making any choices. Koyote also makes some dandy hair splitting small blades. I have several small EDC knives from JK, Stomper on this forum. Design your own and many of these makers will bring it to life for you.

Some of my favorite pocketable fixed blades are:
Charles May Fireant & Handi Scandi
Gene Ingram Pocket Hippo
Scott Cook Owyhee
Tom Krein TK-2

I'd recommend the Izula. It's very light and very tough. Easy to carry and ready for hard-use. One heck of an EDC.

If you still want a larger blade then consider the HEST. Bigger than the Izula, smaller than the RC3, and offering micarta handles. Plus it has a bottle opener!

Check out the Graham Brothers. I have a Stubby Spearpoint from them that is great.

Just placed an order with Tom Krein for one of his Pocket Bowies. Plan on getting a Paul Long pocket sheath made for it & then I will have a new work EDC.

Depends a lot on how small is small?

Bark River do a lot of small knives, PSK, Lil Creek, Lil Canadian and a lot of others too.

The Buck 005GYS/RWS 'Gen5' models are excellent smaller knives, the cheaper one actually comes with a horizontal belt carry nylon sheath. It's 420HC is excellent - especially in less friendly environments. Resharpening is straightforward, too, if 110's are an indicator. Despite my mainly using it over the CPM154 RWS version, due mainly to it's less comfortable checkered grip, it is still user-sharp. They run $55 and $95. That upgrade RWS also has a vertical drop leather sheath - and brass finger guard. Both have a 3" blade and 7 7/8" OAL. Great bushcraft-lite knife - sheeple friendly with that cheaper one's horizontal carry.

I don't recommend a knife for SD. Pepper spray or a gun - legally, of course.

Check the laws in your state. Carrying a fixed blade knife, especially open carry, can get the attention of the local authorities.

I would also recomend Stomper. I'm really liking his EDC blades.

I have a gossman PSK and thats a nice little knife. Not much for stabbing but it'll slice like the dickens. I plan on using it as a skinning knife if I ever get out and go hunting.
