I am looking for a good reasonable first recurve bow for a 16 year old. Any suggestions or bow info would be appreciated. I know very little about bows so any maintenance info would be appreciated also.

I'd go with a fiberglass laminated recurve (vs self bow). Make sure the limbs are not warped. Depending on how long your arms are and how strong you are a bow between 54" - 60" and a draw weight from 45# - 60# is plenty for most game in the lower 48. Maintenance; beeswax on the bowstring, bowstring at the correct length, a good rest, nock point set correctly, correct spine weight for your arrows and wipe your bow down periodically. Check out archery clubs in your area. They can help you out a whole lot more than trying to learn over the web.

Mine is a 1987 Damon-Howatt #50 Recurve I got back when I was 16 and it's still my main bow.

have a good look at the Martin Jaguar takedown recurve bow.

it's probably the best bang-for-buck bow on the market today. a mate of mine has one with 55lb limbs on it and it can punch clean through a pig. it's available with a raneg of limbs in different draw weights.

the best bit is that the riser can take pretty much any quiver, rest and sight on the market.

just budget for a new string and rest when you buy it. the supplied ones are pretty junky.
