Another question:D

I was just wondering what you guys use for lubricant on you sebbies. I'm thinking about trying out Chris Reeve's Fluorinated Grease, and I've also been eyeing Militec-1. Does anyone else have a good alternative to WD-40?

Thanks!!

Jeff

Even though there may be some lubricity to WD-40, I do not really characterize it as a lubricant. That may sound contradictory, but it doesn't seem to have the staying power of other substances that are readily available. I think much of WD-40 evaporates over a period, which is what probably makes it effective as a Water Disbursant.

Anyways. Militec is very good and I am a regular user of same. On the Sebbies, I use the flourinated grease the CR recommends as I have to believe that no one wants Sebbies working well more than Chris himself. Knives I use Militec on respond well to it, but I just use the recommended lube on the Sebenzas.

If it were not Chris and Anne, I could be tempted into thinking that they just push their stuff so that they could make money, but they have too much integrity for that.

I have used both the militec 1 and the grease from Chris
Reeve and thought the knife was much smoother after using
the Reeve grease. I even gave away my militec 1.

I have some brand X liner locks that improved greatly in smoothness with the CRK flourinated grease. Fantastic stuff, I used a small toothpick for application in tight areas and immediate improvement.

One custom folder that I almost returned to maker has smoothed out with the CRK grease.

FK

Do not use WD40 as a lubricant, except in an emergency or for lack of anything else. If you do use it, replace it with a real lube ASAP.

That stuff is great for what it was designed to do....displace water and provide emergency SHORT TIME preservation. It's also good for freeing up mildly rusted or corroded mechanisms such as locks, etc. It is NOT a long time preservative or lubricant. It evaporates too fast.

CRK flourinated grease is the best stuff to use, as the others have already stated, and a little bit goes a long way. Militec-1 is ok if you aren't disassembling the knife and want to get some lube into the pivot area. White Lightning is also a great lube for the Sebenza. I have used it a lot on mine, which is a pretty old one that is well broken in and very smooth.

The reality is that any good quality lube will work on these knives as long as it is used properly and in the right amount.
