I'm looking for a general purpose camp/ranch/bushcraft blade with a 4" - 4.25" cutting edge, 1/8" - 3/16" thick, full-size tang, with micarta or G10 scales. Preferably carbon steel with a sub-$125 price tag. Not interested in the ESEE-4. Are there any other production knives that match those criteria or come close? Or any custom makers you could suggest? I know the price constraint probably limits that route...

Thanks in advance for any info.

I feel like a dumbass. I've got a pair of F1's in my RV and never thought about them. Guess I don't need a new knife after all.

However, I'll take a look at the others in your list, as well. I might be able to talk myself into a new one. :)

Thanks!

Edited to add: That Javelina looks like it might be better suited than the F1 for my particular needs...thanks again.

The Fallkniven FI is a nice knife that features excellent blade steel ( VG-10 ) however the Kraton handles can cause blisters after prolonged use with that being said I still believe it's one heck of a knife also they have the slightly larger S1 and the smaller WM1.

Condor Bushlore ~ cheap enough that if you don't like it you still have $75 to find a new candidate.

The Fallkniven H1 also in the same class...
Bark River Knife and Tool has some models which fit the bill, as well.

Why not the ESEE-4? It meets every one of your requirements and happens to have a fantastic sheath to boot.

Spend a little more and get a Fiddleback Forge but I would have to say the F1 is about perfect.

RC-4 :excitement:

I'll suggest Rick Hargis for a custom too. He makes a great knife from 1095 steel that holds a nice edge. I have one from him and it has been perfect. Most of the knives he posts for sale are right in your price range and they are generally somewhere right around 4 inches.
