Can anyone recommend a good bowie? I really like the looks of the sog bowie 2.0. I want it to be in the 6-7 inch range, preferably 6.5. Does anyone have any recommendations? I really want a bowie, and i love me some carbon steel. Thanks guys.

If you like the approximate size and look of the Sog bowie, you might want to consider the Super Sog bowie. I don't have one yet, but I've handled one, and it's an impressive looking and very substantial piece of cutlery. The price is not too bad as well.

The Cold Steel Recon Scout is another good bowie in that size. You might also check out whatever bowies are available from Bark River. They do some more tradional ones. Love my Rogue Bowie.

i don't have either of these, but i've been REALLY REALLY tempted by both the Cold Steel Recon Scout in San Mai III and the John Greco Alamo Bowie with coffin shaped stag handle.

i do have a Gerber Australian Bowie (difficult to find, these days) and i have a customers Trailmaster in Carbon V. both of those are pretty decent.

I really like the looks of the sog bowie, the 6.5 inch version, i just hate the steel, and haven't had too much luck with sog. I have been looking into the regulator, but i haven't had any luck. My favorite blade design is that of the origional sog bowie. I would want the closest knife to that possible, preferably in carbon steel. I really like the looks of the sog 2.0, but everyone here seems to dislike the company. Is it a good knife and worth the money? I just wouldn't feel right about spending 130 on an aus8 knife.

Are you looking for a tactical looking bowie or a more classical looking one or what? The Becker BK-9 sports a large bowie shaped blade in great steel (1095 CroVan) and is tough as nails. I have one and couldn't be happier with it but it's not the right choice for Alamo reenactments and that sort of thing. :)

Sounds like you want a Randall to me. Or one of the new Blackjack models. How much do you want to spend?

This Magnum Muela Bowie, 26, certainly has the good looks

but as carbon steel is what you want, the cold steel offerings are really good , Laredo, TrailMaster, ReconScout...all in SK5 carbon steel

I could go up to 200. If I could afford a Randall, I would have one. What do you think about the blackjack halo attack? I love the classic look and prefer leather to anything else. I would buy micarta too, but nothing beats leather.

You can get the Model 7 in leather. It's a sweet looking knife. I don't see where you can get the Model 14 in leather.

They're all modeled after the Randall line of knives.

I'd be willing to bet that for around $200 you could get a leather handled knife from one of the fabulous custom makers that hang out on here. I'd take a knife from one of them over a $200 factory blade any day.

Becker BK7, cold steel recon scout, cold steel SRK, knivesshipfree.com large scagel hunter
Scott Gossman is a maker here on the forums who can make you pretty much anything you wish, his Tusker model would be a good place to start though. And Kelsey Creek Knife Works as well.
That covers about all the price ranges
