I'm shooting a Nikon D600 with battery grip, so the SLR is about the size of any full size camera. wondering if anyone has any good recommendations or experience for a good strap? single point are nice. I'm not really wanting to attach it to the tripod mounting position though.

I've been using a BosStrap for almost 3 years now, including with a 500mm lens. Single point attachment to the original camera strap anchor point. No complaints. bosstrap.com

I'm a fan of the Optech Pro Strap. The contoured pad on the strap makes carrying around your neck much more comfortable, especially if you use large zoom or telephoto lenses.

The old standby Op/tech neoprene straps are my default. Although there are several I like. My Tamrac strap is very nice. Though I use it on my F100, so it's much lighter than a D600 with battery grip. I do make custom straps for many of my cameras too ... ;)

But for a full size DSLR with battery grip you really should look at various suspension straps. A firm strap will kill your neck or shoulder right quick. I keep a op/tech on my D200 even when I have my boat anchor of a lens Tamron 28-105 on there. I carry it on my walks to/from work and when I "take the camera for a walk" for a full day.

Optech do a nice strap - i think its the "pro loop" model that i used to have
Crumpler do a comfy one too - the "industry disgrace"

Personally i used to use a blackrapid strap - now i use a spiderholster, it gets the weight off my shoulders and is comfy all day, even with heavy gear (Canon 1DX, 70-200 f2.8 and flash)

I went with spider holster and this thing is framing awesome.

Thanks guys!

Glad you are happy with it !
With a bit of practice you will get much quicker drawing and reholstering the camera - once you build some muscle memory

I have been using mine (actually 2 holsters with 2 cameras) on my wilderness riggers belt for 2 years now - best investment i have made in photo accessories
