I need to re profile a knife for my sharpening system which is at 40 degree's. My knife needs alot of work and I am lookig for a diamond stone that I could use on the sharpmaker. I was looking at the spyderco diamond stones but they are quite expensive, so I was also looking at the DMT, thogh there are so many options.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Thank you

So the Diasharp is just a stone with 1 grit per stone, while the duosharp is 2 different stones?

So I would just let the stone rest against the flat edge of the spyderco stone.? I dont need to take off to much steel, just enogh.

Also should I go for the Course, X course or XX course?

What is the better place to buy these stones?

Thanks all.

Coarse is fine. X Coarse and XX removes A LOT. I recommend the diasharp because they're availible in smaller sizes..
You can secure it with rubber bands. Another trick is to wrap alum oxide sandpaper over the stones

How much courser is the course diamond stone compared to the Brown spyderco stone.

I have 2 coarse diamond benchstones that I am very satisfied with. One is a rather large Norton stone that you can use in their "triple flip" system. It is a 225 grit and is rated "coarse". I also have a 3M stone that is rated as a 125 Micron and I'm not sure what that would translate into the grit system. However it is significantly coarser than the Norton stone.

Both stones have performed very well for me and I would highly recommend abrasive products from either company. I have heard that DMT is a quality company. I have had very limited use of their stuff however. There is one other diamond sharpening device I have this is really portable and works well. It is made by a company called "Cerahone". They were big a few years back but now you hardly ever hear of them. The 2 tools I bought from them seem to be good quality.

Their are 2 nice advantages to diamond stones. First of all they do fairly rapid stock removal. Second if you are in a situation where you have no electricity they are a good tool to have in a survival emergency.

I have a DMT XX being shipped to my house from Toolsforu.com. 61.99 and free shipping as of this past Monday. 61.99 will probably be close to the best price you will find for the DMT XX. Incidently, there are two grit combo stones in the dia sharp. They just don't have the holes like the duo sharp, and they are only 6x2 1/4, making them a bit more affordable than the duo sharps.

If you go to the DMT website, find the D6 combo grit stones, google the stock number, say 'DMT D6CX' (coarse/x coarse), you will have several listings come up. The best I found I believe was knivesplus, or a listing on e-bay that I think was myknifesource. If you type myknifesource.com, he will have a link to his e-bay store. Their prices were around 37.00 plus shipping and handling. However they may not have all the grit combinations you need. I wanted a coarse/x coarse and a fine/x fine to have a complete set and it was hard to find a store with both, althoug if you click DMT on knivesplus.com and go to the last page or so, I think you will find them.

I phoned a request to 888knivesrus and he said he could get them for me for a comparable price plus shipping, but when I talked to him later, I was a little unsure if he understood which stock numbers I was talking about. He has sinced e-mailed me and said that it would be late next week before they would come in, and he didn't include a price in the e-mail.
