I'm rounding out my folder collection with a small folder. I currently have a Benchmade 940, minigriptilian 556, and now I want something smaller than both of those.

To be honest, the Benchmade Benchmite looks perfect, but a google search unearthed a bunch of nonsense including a youtuber who distributes a clone and has an ax to grind with Benchmade.

Here are some things I'd like:

- sturdy steel (D2, 154cm, s30V)
- a locking system like the BM axis lock type system
- around 2 inch long blade (less than 2 and 1/2 inches)
- under $100

The Spyderco Poliwog has a 2.5 inch blade with an edge just under 2 inches. The ball bearing lock is sort of like an Axis lock. Kind of the same idea with a different execution. I had a couple for a while; they're pretty nice knives. My best friend has carried one for the past year or so.

I wish Benchmade would make a manual version of that little 2-inch automatic I see in pictures from time to time.

If you mean the Benchmite, there were 2 manual versions.

I think the shortest AXIS lock BM has made is 3", of which there were several.

Sanrenmu 763. Axis, G10 handle (now got aluminum version), medium steel 8Cr13MoV (same as Tenacious), ambidex pocket clip, less than 2.5 inch.

If you can go to almost a 3 inch blade, the Benchmade Mini-Barrage is worth a look.
