im looking for a good folder that i can buy for between 40 and 80$. ive been thinkin about maybe a spyderco native or possibly a dodo. Any other suggestions? thanks.

i recommend the kershaws. they have a top quality build (as do spydies) except they are LIGHTNING QUICK. get an onion and you'll love it...and play with it.

Can't go wrong with a Benchmade Griptilian. Love my 550 OD :D

Axis lock is smooth and fun to play with and fits my hand better than my Native S30v.

Hello,

I'd like to have a good idea of what you really (vice hypothetically) use your knife for.

However, I own a Dodo (blue with plain edge). I like it for work. Opening bags (heavy plastic and paper), cutting straps, cutting rope, minor wood work, cardboard, etc. It's not a design for everyone, but the biggest problem with it appears to be its looks (pun). I like the sure grip, good lock, and still cuts when it feels a bit dull steel. A negative is a slight difficulty in sharpening, but success has its rewards.

As for the Griptilian, I do think the axis lock is easier to manipulate.

Lurk around the forums. Lots of information to consider prior to purchase time.

Good luck and happy experiences.

Spyderco makes a great knife with premium blade steel. The Native at Wal-Mart is perhaps their best deal with CPMS30V blade steel and a $40 price tag.

The Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter folder is a great bargain and a lot of knife for $50 and some change. Either of these are a lot of bang for the buck. The handle and grip on this CS Hunter is great.

i already have a kershaw assisted opener and a benchmade griptilian.
I suggest you take a look at the Benchmade Switchback model 921.
Ive been drooling over this knife for quite a while, but its a little out of my price range for now. Ive been hearing really good things about the native, but i cant decide between the stainless or the frn version. what do you all like better?

Spyderco Centofante III is worth a look too. It is pretty much my favorite FRN handled knife. The blade is very thin, so it isn't what I would consider heavy duty, but it slices like nobody's buisness.

As far as the Native goes, I have never handled the stainless version, but the FRN hanled version is quite nice. Its probably the best deal you can get on a knife that I can think of. I mean an S30V blade for $40?! Thats just crazy. Lock up is very tight, no blade play.

spyderco native, $40 @ walmart. I got it a month ago. Terific knife at great price. This way you will save money to buy more knives

Don't get a Native, get a Delica.
Natives are butt-ugly. The Delica beats it hands-down for both looks and utility. Slightly easier to open, due to its shape. Pointy tip (at least on the older model... Get 'em while you can!).
Or, if you like it better, check out the newer model delica.

It may not have S30V steel, but if you get it fully serrated it doesn't matter (despite what anybody says). Besides, a fully serrated Spyderco is unbeatable.

Peace.

id say the native. i was looking for an affordable folder for heavy use. cutting cardboard, straps, etc and almost got a griptilian, but found a native at walmart and coulndt passup the price. that knife cuts through thick cardboard boxes like it was nothing. im very impressed with it

The Spyderco Dialex Adventura is more than the amount that you originally posted. I happen to think it is am AWESOME knife. But, in your price range, get yourself a Spyderco Native.
