As I took my recon 1 apart, I realized I only had WD-40 to spray on and nothing better.
At some point I'll need to oil up my Paramilitary 2!
What would you guys recommend?

Weaponshield
Tuff-Glide and a Tuff-Cloth

Both are great lubes, and they also are very good at rust prevention. I've heard great things about FrogLube, but I don't have any personal experience with it... yet.

I just use rem oil for the pivot and use something called renaissance wax on the blades of knives I store. Same stuff museums use to preserve some metals.

Renaissance wax will keep your blade rust free, apply after cleaning/drying. As BrentD86 says "Same stuff museums use" Great stuff and a little goes a long way.
On pivot I've tried Sentry products - Tuf-Glide liquid and Tuf-Cloth, Hi-Slip grease In a sort of rotation, also a dab of grease containing Molybdenum Disulphide sometimes, it depends what I feel like trying. Just about everyone that I've talked to has their own way and products that they favour. I do keep coming back to the Tuf-Glide though.

Fluid Film is a lanolin based lubricant and excellent rust preventer. It is available in spray cans or the more appropriate (for reel/firearm/knife use) liquid.

It is thixotropic which means it becomes less viscous when applied to stress so it stays where you put it. I use it on everything from the undercarriage of my truck, to locksets, to firearms, to knife pivots. I'm always finding new uses for it.

I used rem oil on my pivots, but I'm not happy with it. I had my blade swinging free, but a week later it's hanging up. I'll be looking for something else.

I've been using 3-in-one oil for as long as I can remember, the stuff from the little metal tin. Has anyone else had experience with it? Always worked fine for me!

I use drug-store mineral oil. It's food safe, odorless and best of all it ensures that my folding knives are smooth and easily flickable.

:)I've never had much of a lubrication problem with knives, at most I use food safe mineral oil to wipe them down sometimes.

If you are looking strictly for rust prevention on safe queens, then your needs may differ from wanting a good lube that is also good at rust prevention. I have never used Renaissance Wax, but it's recommended for carbon spring steel replica swords, and many museums use it on real swords. For a straight lube, it is hard to beat Militec-1. The problem with Militec is that it is horrid for rust prevention. If the pivot area is uncoated, then the Militec is a bad idea:

CPM-M4 Presidio blade. Yes, that is surface rust on the pivot from the factory-applied Militec-1. I no longer use Militec on anything I want to keep rust-free. Fortunately, Weaponshield and Tuff-Glide/Cloth keep things just as slick as Militec, but their rust prevention is light years beyond it.

Mobile 1 or mineral oil.

Y'all have given me an idea for my next rust-prevention test that will be bigger. I forgot that I have some of each. I should have included them in my first test.
mineral oil
Mobil 1
3-in-1
Weaponshield
CLP
Tuff-Glide/Cloth
WD-40
Militec-1
Froglube (someone is sending me some to test)
Disotec XFR
Armadillo (supposed to do what Renaissance Wax does)

anyone else want to send me a sample of something I haven't listed? It would need to be enough to cover a 3" x 6" steel plate on both sides. The test will be conducted in late February.

Well, dispite all the hype..... I actually do like Nano-oil. I recently tried the 10w on the pivots of 2 Benchmade 940's. I can tighten the pivot screws down firm and the blade still swings out free. I use clp on the blades currently, but also have used Tuff-glide and Ren wax with good results. Have a great day, Mike

I just recently bought some of Benchmade Blue Lube and it actually worked really well. I normally use one of my gun lubes or some lightweight 3in1 oil, I was at my local knife shop and saw the blue lube and figured I would give it a try. From experience with some of my guns, Break Free CLP is the best at preventing rust from all the things I have tried. I have tried many.
