Hey folks. The title tells the story, but a little background if you care. I've been training in Bo-Staff for a part of my life. I have always loved the bladed staves, so I decided to get one and start learning.

I want a good quality blade that is actually functional, and between 5.5 and 6.5 ft OAL

Thanks!

Totally with you man. I personally felt that staff skills translate better to a yari than a naginata, but hey.

For what it's worth, Cold Steel's spears are excellent buys. The long-hafted assegai is cheap, but quite good.

-edit- I'd love to see what Storm Crow could come up with in the naginata style, however. I bet his work would translate quite well to a spear.

I am actually making my own right now, I have an old tramontina machete, and I am putting a slot in an old hockey stick for it. Some rivets and a wire wrap for reinforcement and Bob's your uncle. Might be a fun project to help you decide if you want to drop some coin on a real one.

I already have a Cold Steel Bushman on a 5' Staff that i absolutely LOVE. It's a lot of fun to play with, and it functions quite well as a weapon. The blade is a good bit shorter than i'd like but it's incredibly durable and throws beautifully.

Kris Cutlery makes a naginata blade. It's not hafted, but looks like a nice blade for not too much.

Other than that I'd say the Hanwei, or a custom.
