I will eventually get a 40T. Tried to get one from my distributor today but they don't have any yet. :(

Knifezilla has this trainer:

for $25

Any other recommendations?

I recommend getting a BM4X and taping the blade. That way, you get a great knife and when you're ready, you don't have to wait to buy a new knife. Just remove the tape. Besides, bali's are so addictive that you'll want the best knife in a week's time anyway.

It depends entirely on what you want your trainer for.

So far, folks who have these Knifezilla trainers, and maybe some of them will contribute more details here, all seem to like it for manipulation practice.

But, if you want it for sparring, well, that tip is still way to pointy. At first, I thought that the picture must be wrong. Perhaps just a reuse of a picture of one of the "Pacific Style" balisongs they sell. But, I've been told that, in fact, it's accurate.

For manipulation practice, you can blow $12 at I&I Sports and get one of theirs. It's not strong enough for sparring. There's a review article on my website in which you can see what happened to mine. But, for $12 it's fine for manipulation.

i don't seem to like thoses pacific knives they seem VERY heavy. As for the trainer i always use my trusty heavy butteryfly made by rostfrei knife which has a solid frame and a dragon on it (knife is very sturdy). But i will soon upgrade to a MB42 very soon!

(1)....A little on the heavy side is very good for building inter-digital strength for manipulations.

(2)....Those "China-Cheapies" Josh sells are not bad (actually quite good) if you whack the latch off and like latchless Balisongs...for manipulation practice.

(3)....WHAT CHUCK SAID ~~~> about the point!!! For "Sparring"....(and I'm not sure how many do that on here)..., they are WAY to pointed, and not suited for serious use in any form of knife training or general martial arts purposes as they are currently sold.
