I am in need of a watch winder. I want a decent one but one that wont break the bank. Any recommendations?

I have my wife wind my watches. :D She'll break the bank, however. LOL

A watch winder?? Do they make such a thing?? The only
watch winder I've ever known about was the hand it is worn on
if it's an automatic self winder.

That thought could go lots of places...........

Hi Shootist16-

If you're a regular on TimeZone (as I am), you'll know that collecting automatic watches can be a very expensive hobby.

With that said, a watch winder will help keep the mainsprings of your watches healthy, keep lubricants spread throughout the watch, and keep your time/date settings where they should be each day.

You can look into some of these models:
  • Scatola del Tempo (top-of-the-line, quite expensive)
  • Underwood (mid-range, modular, and scaleable)
  • Orbita (moderately-priced)
That's what I've thought of off the top of my head without consulting TimeZone.com, WatchTime magazine, or Int'l Wristwatch (IWW) magazine. If you have three watches or less, you should be OK without a winder for now. Beyond three watches, it gets to be a pain in the arse to keep track of all of them.

Good Luck,

Dennis-

Check out the deals on an Orbita winder at: http://www.orbita.net/pages_us/main_us.htm

The nice thing about the Orbita is that they are fully programmable for number of revolutions and direction of revolutions. The Hot Deals section of their website sells some models that have been discontinued and some models that have cosmetic blemishes. I bought a $700 Orbita Geneva winder for $400 because it has a slight scratch in the wood. Good way to get a top quality winder and save some money in the process.

Chase-Durer and Invicta have basic winders that retail below $200.00
They are not programable but work OK.
Do a web search and you'll find the company web sites.

I read somewhere recently that Orbita was coming to market soon with a new winder in the $200 range. It's supposedly programmed to prevent over winding.
