I hate Pakistan junk. India is very questionable. Chinese stuff getting better, but want something more unique.

I am going to purchase two swords from Himalayan Imports (Everest Katana & The BirGorkha Tarwar). I have a weakness for hand made HI and KH khukuri's. I served with British Gurkhas in Afghanistan and respect their skills.

Any other places unique and neat like Nepal and HI?

Thanks

You can get a lot of info with a visit to sword forum.

I have a lot of HI items including the kantana and tarwar nice but more display. Have you looked at any Paul Chen?

You can get Chen from the web site to ebay and many web sites that sell swords from $100 to thousands

I've been hooked on HI Tibetans myself lately.

However, another interesting place to look is Cozun.com for Thai swords.

Chenessinc.com makes decent quality Japanese-type cutting swords.

I'll have to second Azis that you should go have a look at Swordforum.com for knowledgeable reviews and opinions.

Cozun.com for Thai swords is excellent. I will check out the Chenessinc.com.

Thanks for the info.

PS, Like like this site better than Swordforum.com (0 replys). Easier to get around here also.

Buy customs and you don't have to deal with the "production sword" syndrom. All of the production swords I have handled are well worth what they cost but most are a far cry from a "real" sword..they are cheap, cold, and lifeless. IMO, YMMV. I'll add that I have handled precious few Western styled production swords (A few customs...) and my comments are directed at the available Japanese style swords

Ya gotta be careful about *all* of the sword discussion forums and you have to read and weigh the information carefully. It's like asking about folding knives. Every guy has his own preferences and experiences. Personally, after about 15+ years of playing with swords I find virtually all discussion boards to contain an equal amount of dis/mis information...like a 50/50 mix of good/bad. Consider the source and research the background and participation and level of experience of the posters you find interesting. Shopping for swords is time consuming deal but what one guy considers to be "outstanding" is often not seen that way if you have handled a lot of antiques or a variety of customs.

Production swords are a lot like production cars. You might handle one that is pretty nice and then the next one off the line might have been made by a guy having a bad day who is looking for a new job. It's a hard thing to give them tacit approval based upon handling or seeing 4 or 5 examples.
