Ok looking for a large chopper/survival knife. Wanting something with at least a 10" blade. I want something like an RTAK-2 but after messing with my buddys' it flexed too much for my taste. Maybe a .25" thick RTAK?? Does anyone make something like that in the $250 range? I've seen RD9 but I feel the blade needs to wider and thinned out more, and I love the Browning competition knife but its a bit small compared to something like the RTAK/Junglas. How much am I looking at to have some one make me a custom? Thanks, Mike.

ESEE Junglas:thumbup:

The Junglas is nice but wanting something a bit thicker for wood work. Took my friend's Junglas out two weeks ago and it really wasn't much of a chopper. In fact the RTAK2 actually took deeper bites. Great bush knife though.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but these may be in your price range...

Looks perfect..How do go about getting one? Can't see it being under $350 though. If they come in at $250 I'll be all over a green one.

no opinion on this, but tops has a new eagle coming out that is like 12" and in your price range...saw it in a mag...

Looks awesome, just wanting a more traditional blade shape.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!

For that price you can get two SK-5 CS trailmasters, or one nice used San Mai III one. They only have a 9.5" blade but are proven to be great chopper/survival knives though.

Maybe you just need a Machete?
:)

If you are ready to spend $250 on a chopper, try a Tramontina for $5.99.

Kabar BK-9 hasnt been mentioned yet. Or a Ranger RD9 both thicker and more chopperesk than a machete. I like my Dogfather more as far as steel and handle comfort go. For the price you mentioned you could get both the Kabar and the Ranger and have money to spare :)

Check over on the knifemakers for sale forum. Several of the makers have choppers on there rather regularly.

For that price you can often pick up a forged chopper out of 5160 that will be far more than adequate.
