Well, I recently got a Mini Griptillian, and I love it! I'm now looking to maybe get another Benchmade. Prerequisites:

1. Plain edge.
2. AXIS lock (other lock types I will consider, but the AXIS is my preference)
3. Relatively cheap (70-80$ tops)

I'm steering towards getting a 551 plain edge, maybe in black or olive drab. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, how is the 350? I know, liner lock, but its got a well-shaped (IMO) blade, out of 154CM!

Edit: I'm willing to go up to maybe 100$, but cheaper = better.

I might reccommend a 720. It has the axis and an aluminium handle. My 720s is my beater knife. I must add though, that at that price point I really don't think there is anything THAT much better than the Griptilian you already have. If I were you I'd probably hold off and wait till I had $120 and buy my self a 921 switchback. Just a thought.

It's more than you want to spend but I would recommend a 943, this knife is top notch. You can pick one up online for $110.00 and it is well worth the bank.

If you like the 350, then you should consider the new 530. It is the Axis lock version of that knife.

I second the the 530 too if you get something other than the 551. I'd wait until they get into general distribution. Instead of the $90 MSRP, they should be running between $75-$65. I definitely plan to get one myself.:D

I suggest you lok at the 710 in M2 tool steel. It is a truly remarkable knife, for just a bit more $.

The Griptilian is already a lot of knife for the $, and the D2 version gives you a premium steel.

I second that Ares! Mine is the knife that made me look at benchmade the first time. Usefull bladeshape for a deskguy like me, nice ambi AXIS-lock, clip and studs (I'm a southpaw), really sharp decent steel, silky smooth action, cutout liners and 2-tone G10, silky smooth action! It has it all! Gosh, I love my Ares :)

BM 721 is nice. The handle fits my hands nicely. The edge is easy to maintain. I just use one of those DMT aligner kits. Nice polished edge with the extra fine hone. The lock is solid and no blade play at all. THe g10 handle is great. It's one tough knife.

Too bad my omega spring broke. BENCHMADE...reply my mail quickly!!! I'm begging here...and crying as well...i love that knife...

GET THE MINI-AFCK WHILE YOU STILL CAN! That would be the model 814. One of the best knives ever made (definetly for the price). Too bad they are currently being discontinued. Hopefully they will be replaced with something better.:(
