What the title says :D

I have never owned one before, and I'm sure my Spydies will welcome one :)

I'm looking primarily at a blade length of 2.5 to 3.5 inches. Anything outside this range is okay, but very grumpily accepted.

Axis lock is, of course, a must.

Weight under 4 ounces would be good, but not critical.

I don't know if they make anything with a wood handle, but if they do it should be a front runner. No metal handles, but bolsters are good.

Handle ergonomics are of course subjective but I'd like this one to have a secure grip with no hot spots. This is really the most important area for me. The handle should also allow me to get very close to the edge.

Ideally? 3.5 in AFCK with a regrind and axis lock. But I can't get that sadly :(

Throw 'em up, and pics are always nice :)

The BM 705 and 707 are very nice. They are just smaller versions of the 710

I just oticed that you said no metal handle so those 2 are out. They do offer them with wood inlays though

930 kulgera
950 rift

Someone is going to suggest a mini rukus, but that's almost 6 ounces

Someone else is going to suggest a 14205, which I have no experience with

And someone is going to suggest a 950 Rift. ;)

Or already did :)

It's the frontrunner here-when I handled it I didn't like the bump near the end, but I can get used to it.

Can the space between edge and handle be used as a finger choil?

The Rukus to me fit your description unfortunatly it is hard (bloody expensive ) to find. How about the presidio or the ultra presidio - since both models fall under your weight preference.

I just saw the new-ish Bone Collector. How's that?

Edit: Wow, it really weighs in. Looks nice though.

I love my Bone Collector. For the price I don't think that there is a better knife. Handles provide good grip blade is a good slicer but tough as well. Stong lock and beefy handles. It is based off of the presidio line. Model #'s 525 for the mini and 520 for the full size. Great knives.

Also look at the HK 14205 another winner. 950 Rift too.

I'm really leaning towards the Rift :) Weighing about as much as current EDC, Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

But I will miss the lack of finger choil. Most useful feature on a large knife, IMO.

The 15020-1 Bone Collector - the -1 signifying green/black G10 instead of black - is a 3.36" x .125" D2 bladed AXIS Lock knife. Great combo - excellent handfit/security in my medium+ hands. Easily one-hand deploy/return - with practice. Thumbhole deployment, effective, if not my favorite. Mine came uniformally quite sharp - and with an even bevel.

I've seen them for $100-$120 - shop around. Great EDC!

Stainz

PS Gads... it weighs 5.6 oz - like me, it's too heavy! Sorry!!

The ones that I think really epitomize Benchmade's Axis best, in no particular order:

707 (or 705, discontinued)

940 (or 960, recently discontinued)

Any mini-Grip (your choice of blade style, steel and color; I'd lean toward the S30V Ritter in yellow (available from Aeromedix only at MSRP) or the D2 (was Cabelas exclusive but now available from at least one other vendor) - the mini-Grips have a whole different feel than the excellent but to some cheap-feeling and -sounding full size Grips)

950 (a bigger knife)

940 - Fast deployment, feels good in the hand and good looking. The reverse tanto makes for a robust blade. I consider it a "gentleman's tactical".
