Recommend me a Busse

Hi all,

First post here - though I have been lurking for weeks.

This may have been asked before but bear with me. I'd appreciate any recommendations for a smaller Busse. Something easily carried and useful for hunting.

I'm from Ireland so edc is out of the question. I only carry one when hunting / fishing etc. I already have 2 Busses. A Boney Active Duty & a Boss Street. Of the 2 I much prefer the Boney. I like the Boss Street but it's a bit too thick for my taste.

What would you recommend as being similar to the Boney?

One other thing; I see alot of knives advertised here as coming from the custom shop. How do you get one of these? Is there a 'custom shop' where you can order one??

Thanks for your patience.

The Boss Streets come in thinner flavors, too. Look for the anorexic ones: CABS (no choil), SCABS (small choil), and LCABS (large choil). For hunting and fishing I imagine you might want something with a more pronounced belly... seen the MUK yet?

And, yes, there's a custom shop where you can get your very own customized knife. Just call the office and ask for the custom shop. There's not really any online documentation of it available--Busse enjoys talking to people so they're fine repeating the same custom shop intro blurb every time someone calls them up :)

Call the shop during the day. For hunting and fishing there a lot of choices! Meaner street has the same handle as your boney ad, game wardens are great little all arounders. Many choices.

Hey Mate!

Welcome! My favorite all time small Busse is the Boney Active Duty.

I would recommend the Basic 4 LE. I just received an Anorexic Basic 4 LE today and I can't put it down! It's incredibly maneuverable, comfortable, well balanced, and razor sharp! The blade profile cannot be beat in my opinion. Res-C is a great, highly durable material. I think it will make a fantastic knife for hunting & fishing. It is just a tad thicker than the BAD.

A SAR-3 or Game Warden (not a fatty) would do the trick. If you like the Boss Street, but want something thinner, there is the CABS (Choilless Anorexic Boss Street,) which is a blade I am currently hunting down.

Best of luck, and welcome to the madness!

I'd take a look at either of the knives being offered by swamprat or scrapyard. 311 and rodent 4 would be good be good for hunting/fishing

This is true. SR-101 is fantastic for smaller blades because it takes a mean edge and holds it like no ones business. If you're looking for something a tad larger, the RMD LE can't be beat for the price, if they are even still available. I would jump all over the RMD LE if you can still get in on it. The RMD is a classic and being satin just makes it all the better.

Another option would be the HOG Or Scrap Muk! Both awesome blades.

The Scrap Yard 311 is a great knife . But it IS the same size as the one you already have . 3 1/2" blade by 8" over all . But at a fantastic price . For an actual Busse I'd second the Basic 4LE with the Anorexic blade that is .155" thick . I bought a Basic 4 and it's a great knife .

Welcome to BladeForums!

Cultie is a great small, skinny, and underappreciated knife.

FBMs are smaller than AKs or a Zillas :D

You shoud absolutely, positively, try and get your hand's on a Basic 4, anorexic or magnum. If the Res-C handle is not to your liking, and since you mentioned Custom Shop, the BA3 or CABS would also fill your stated requirement. Still, the Basic 4 is a No Brainer, and would fill the roll of a hunting, fishing knife perfectly and a few are coming up for sale now.

Maybe my cruddy cell pics will help to push you towards a Basic 4 LE. I wish I had taken a spine shot. The Anorexic Basic 4 LE is barely thicker than the BAD. The edge on my B4 is pure madness! Beef, you've done it again!

Flux,
I can help with a spine shot compared with the CABS. If you like your Boss Street, but wish it were thinner, then the CABS will fill the bill. I would still strongly consider the Basic 4 like Flux, say's.

Nice!! Thanks for that! I really want a CABS! It's on the top of my buy soon list. Maybe there will be a gorgeous custom CABS at blade with my name all over it.

Wow. Thank you all for the recommendations.

I'm a recent convert to Busse. I bought a BAD with mashed cat sheath second hand and was blown away. Just felt right in the hand. I used to have 20+ knives, folders and fixed, of various brands. I've sold most of them now. I then bought the Boss Street and while I really like it, I'd prefer something with a thinner blade - that's just my preference.

Basic 4 seems like the way to go. The CABS looks much more useable than my model.

I'll keep an eye on the for sale section.

Regarding custom shop, do they supply a Busse that's not on the company store page? Could I just contact them and look for another BAD or a CABS for example?
Sorry if this is a basic question but I've tried searching on line and I'm not sure how the whole custom shop thing works?
