Hey guys, after spending years trying to find a cell phone holster than is durable, secure and relatively ok looking I'm about to throw in the towel.

There are secure holsters, durable holsters and those that are secure and durable but only for a limited time. What I need is something that will clip on vertically (securely) (alternative horizontal mount good too) but which does not have that stupid rotating clip. Must have a secure flap cover as well with either quality velcro/hook&loop, magnet or something like that and preferably a quick release buckle as well (so I don't have to worry when mountain biking). Material I'm not picky on, as long as it'll last.

Any ideas? Maxpedition makes something like that I think, I know they have a great rep. but how is the cell phone holster?

FWIW, my phone is medium sized at 4"x1.75"x0.75"

I checked out the maxpedition phone cases and they are not bad... but as expected very tactical looking, may frighten the sheeple. I added a R.A.T wallet to my versipack.. . it holds my blackerry or Ipod fine and I can throw in some cards, cash and coins as well. Still pretty tactical, but it is a multi-tasker that can be worn on the belt or on a pack.

I've got the Maxpedition holder. It's tough as nails. I used it for about a year and it still looks like new. I don't use it anymore because I found that I prefer to carry everything in my pockets and I was tired of the phone holster getting caught on everything.

When I posted this same thing here a few years back, I got a lot of suggestions. Try running a search on 'cell phone holsters' and you should get a lot of useful information.

I bought a Mossy Oak a while back and that has been pretty good,it's shorter that a lot of others, but the phone I have now is smaller also. It's a velcro closure and as long as I put the velcro tabs together,it hooks tight,I have a habit of not doing that and then I'll find the flap, flapping around but the phone has never come out.Getting the phone out takes a little getting used to,the easiest way is to push it up from the bottom. It also has a couple extra slots for carrying a credit card, knife, small tool or flashlight.

Well the google search of BF didn't bring up anything worthwhile with various queries. I'd really prefere a flap to the single strap on the maxpedition, though it seems the quality of it is top notch... I dunno.

I have THIS one from NITE-IZE and it's as tough as nails.

Although I don't have a cell phone holder from these guys, Duluth Trading Co. makes some good looking ones, and anything I have bought from them has always been first rate.

Yeah, Duluth looks nice alright, but I dunno. Maybe I should look in some b&m stores around me again as its been a year or two.

I got a great one from County Comm that I've been using. They made it for their pocket radio but my cell phone fits in it very nicely. In fact, I got two: one tan & one black. I'm fashion conscious that way. :D (Actually, the tan goes with my desert sage Bail Out Bag for the small radio.) http://www.countycomm.com/carrycase.htm

I think I seen this at meijer's before, but maybe it was just a similar product. But this Apollo case looks rather promising. I'm hesitant about the single stitch on the belt loop/clip mount, though. Has anybody tried this out before?

I have used the Maxpedition for a couple of years. It's very secure, but it can be hard to replace the phone one-handed.

I've been using RipOff's for a few years. Carry a Moto Razor plus all my wallet stuff - nice hefty clip to hold it in your pocket. They last a couple of years of daily use - then i get a replacement - want to say their around $14.00? Information on the metal clip is : RipOff,PO Box 3270,San Dismas ,Ca. 91773

Kydex looks cool and I had thought about it before, but I got a feeling it would have a tendency to wear the numerals off the buttons and such. The ripoffs look pretty good, but I want to see if I can find that apollo in a store somewhere and check it out; same with the Nite-Ize.

I had a Nite Eyz before the Mossy Oak that I have now, they are very similar, the Mossy Oak is a little shorter. After a year or so of use,the Nite Eyz started to fray a little and the elastic on the pockets was stretching, enough that it wouldn't hold a AA maglight anymore. After about the same length of time the Mossy Oak is holding up well, thay were about the same price also.

What you spec'd is available at Dollar General, and O'Reilly's Auto, $5 to $14 dollars. I've think I've seen them at Circuit City, too. Belt clip on a vertical and horizontal web, velcro, and buckle. Chinese, of course, so I wouldn't expect a hard use tactical lifetime out of it.

I'm using one from DolGen, it's a nice cheap holster. I just clip it, and if I was doing anything in the way of outdoors use, I'd have it in a daypack turned off anyway.

Saw the Nite-ize clip case plus on 'clearance' at lowe's for $14.42 and was rather impressed with the ruggedness so I pulled the trigger. I'm not totally thrilled about the polymer clip, but it seems strong and the hook at the end is a great design. So far I'm really dig'n this one, seems right on for my needs!

Someone already mentioned it, but the recent catalog from Duluth Trading has several to choose from. I have a few of their bags and briefcases - very good quality and excellent durability, and without making me look like Sgt. Wannabe.

Here are their website search results for Cell Phone:

Coincidentally, the Filson catalog arrived the same day. I'm sure they had a phone holster, but I cannot find it at their website. Made from leather as I recall, same as my Filson wallet that has been excellent.

Another vote for Spec-Ops phone holster, extremely well made and with a lifetime warranty I believe. I used to use leather ones that fell apart, but I've had the Spe-Ops for at least 2 years of daily carry and it still looks brand-new.

i've used spec-ops and ripp-offs, both good, right now i am using one from cingular though that they threw in when i got my latest phone (a razr) and its been good too.
