Hey guys. A lot of you know me but I haven't been around too much lately due to work. I wouls ask the question somewhere else, but to be honest, you Busse guys steer me always in the right direction, so im asking it here, hope its ok.So, lets get to it.
I just screwed myself good, and bought a brand spanking new MacBook Pro 13" with retina. Now, there isn't many sites that make cases and bags for the new retina ones yet, but I trust you guys the most, so I wanted to ask this question here.
I love cool stuff, like most of us on here. But, I want to get a real nice bag for the computer and a book or two, ok, knife, flashlight, etc.....so, I would love to hear what you guys have or might know about.
I looked at maxpedition, but surprisingly not much more than like 2 tan bags, and I really love the Timbuk2 style bags like their messenger bag, but it is a bit large for a edc/small laptop bag, so any ideas?
As of now, in so desperate and anal about these silly fun things like gear, so I might buy the Timbuk2 messenger bag, and perhaps cut some off of it to make it a bit thinner and shorter, the. Stitching it all back together, as I have done things like that in the past., and so far I really love the blue or grey timbuk2 style best.

So, real question: any cool non manhattan-rich yuppie leather, bags for edc slash small laptop out there you guys know of?Thanks for all the help, my words mY not be perfect, but I have had a couple glasses of Johnny black label recently.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

If you really like the timbuk2 bags.. why not pick one of their smaller models?

You can even cumstomize their various models on their web site.

Personally, I´m using a shoulder bag originally made for parents.
Lots of great pockets ´n stuff..

I've seen a few models in A.G. RUSSEL'S "for men" catalog.
I believe Semper Paratus Tactical does full on customs.

Filson Medium Field bag. Or splurge and get a Filson Briefcase. Good-looking, indestructable, a Bussesque warranty, the heaviest duty brass zippers you ever saw. It is truly the Busse of bags.

Filson replaced at no cost my large laptop briefcase after many years of use because it developed a mildew-like odor, undoubtedly because I let it sit damp in the truck for several days. I Emailed them to ask how to clean this and they said send it in. I expected my used bag back with some kind of treatment for the odor, they sent a brand new bag instead.

I recently got a medium Timbuk2 messenger bag and I was concerned it would be too big as well. But I read some people online saying that the small was really small so I just decided why not go for the medium. Personally, I think it's the perfect size. It fits my Macbook Pro with the laptop carry thing option and I have plenty of room to bring all the rest of the stuff I need to work in it. I would recommend it personally but there's another company called Waterfield that seems to make decent bags too. They're not as cool in my opinion, plus you can customize Timbuk2 bags, but they still seem like a solid company that's worth checking out. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do!

This is what i carry. it's a little expensive ($300ish) but it's the best quality leather bag i've ever owned

Just realized that the one i suggested is the ultimate in yuppie bags.

You would probably like my last bag better

Bellino "The Dean"... much cheaper, and EXCELLENT quality. It's a much more distressed looking leather and is very high quality

The A.G. Russell sale catalog that I recieved yesterday has a suede lap-top case that isn't terribly expensive as these things go.

I carry my laptop in a Maxped Sitka. I love sling packs because they leave my hands free and when I need something I can just swing the pack around to the front.

Ok, still searching. You guys definitely got me on the right track.
Btw, not sure why, but I'm leaning towards canvas, not leather.....
Thanks so much for all the ideas!

Mulholland Brothers has a nice looking waxed canvas laptop bag on their website - Lombard Street Bag. Not cheap, but it looks nice and rugged.

Yea, so.......I'm really looking at the timbuk2 style, the more I look at options.
I'm now sure, that I will probably also buy a nice cushy sleeve for the computer, and sew it in my self, since most messenger bag style bags are too huge inside, plus I love to alter my new toys in my own way anyways!
Then I will have a cool looking bag with a protective sleeve too.
So, although plenty of this type of bag already have pockets for laptops, I don't see anything that really grabs me yet. So, any other companies that make cool, not too plain bags, similar to the timbuk2 look?
Thanks, let u guys know when I pull the plug!
