Howdy folks,

This is a new interest, have no idea where it came from or what I'll do with said knife when I find it, but hey, who says this hobby has to make sense?:D

So I know about the Gerber Applegate/Fairbairn folder--not really interested in that particular iteration.

Came across the Boker Fairbairn folder--this I like, but with the exchange rate of the dollar I feel like I'd be paying $200 dollars for a $100 dollar knife.

Maybe it's really worth the $200--if you have experience with it, I'd like to hear about it.

Those are the basic examples of what I'm looking for, budget is $400. Not interested in OTFs, Fairbairn-style folding daggers only.

Any and all help would be appreciated, pics would be sweet if ya got 'em.

Best,

Heekma

C'mon folks, help a fella out?:)

I'm looking for something very much like this Boker:

http://www.boker.de/us/pocket-knife/boker/tactical-knife/112240.html

Depends on what folks who have handled or owned it have to say though. Haven't found out much about it with the search function here or with Google. I'd also like to have more options than just the Boker.

Surely members know of similar types of knives?

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated,

Heekma

cziv,

Thank you very much--exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Can you think of anything similar that's current production? I'm not opposed to tracking down a Cuda, but I'd prefer to pay current production prices as opposed to collector's prices if possible.

Best,

Heekma

CCM is likely a "better knife" overall, but you'll likely pay at least twice as much. I handled, but not owned, the Boker, and it's on my short list for a future purchase. FWIW, I actually prefer the blade profile on it to that on the Cuda.

They're both too d*mn much for a shank IMHO. Why not a CS Ti-lite or a CRKT Dragon for cheap? One folds one's fixed. Both will pop a beachball as good as the knives discussed so far. :)

Kinda funny you'd say that, b/c the reason the daggers tend to stay on my short list rather than get bought is just what you posted, lol.

Ti-Lite in alum. handle is a great choice for a folding dagger.

I do very much like some of the gorgeous, museum-quality custom daggers w/Damascus blades and exotic handles which run for around $1,000-$1,500, but they also run much too rich for my blood.

I would personally stay as far away from that Boker as humanly possible. I had the older AFD (very similair) that would close just by hitting the palm of my hand with the back side of the blade. After contacting Boker they replaced it for me only after suggesting that I had modified the blade somehow by grinding on the portion that contacts the liner lock. The replacement doesn't seem to have the lock failure problem, but what is still unsettling in how little movement of the liner is needed to disengage the lock. Awesome looking knife, but it is just not worth the $175 I paid for it... Anyways... I am always on the hunt for a nice dagger/spear-point folder... My options seem to be limited... One I found that I really like is the Benchmade 530, just keep in mind that it is a pretty small knife... It is very thin, too. I forget I'm carrying it.
