Recommend me a good small EDC folder

I'm thinking about giving a knife to a family member for Christmas. They are a college student so I'd like to keep this a small knife that will tuck in a pocket or have a low riding clip so he can EDC the blade. I'm going to say 3" or shorter blade.
I'd like to keep the price around $25-30, but certainly less than $50.
Ideas I've had so far:
Kershaw leek
Kershaw cryo
Spyderco dragonfly

Any other blades I should consider?

I would recommend a case peanut, plenty of scale material flavors to choose from, both carbon steel and stainless. Main blade is 2", and a true slicer.

Get the Cryo. You really can't beat a frame locking folder for 30$, not to mention that you've got a lock bar stabilizer, four way low-ride pocket clip... and a "decent" blade steel. The blade shape is really choice and the overall ergos of the knife are great. If you're not into assisted knives, you can take the torsion bar out... I would highly, highly recommend the Cryo, and it's well within your budget.

I like the Zing SS a little more than the Cryo. I got one for my little bro for his 16th birthday and he loves the thing.

In my opinion someone starting college is going to get a lot more use out of a Victorinox or a multitool. I would say get them a leatherman wave or a super tinker. It wasn't that long ago I had my first year in the dorms and for me a super tinker and my wave were both way more useful than a dedicated folder. A wave is a bit heavy/big to EDC in college but was in my bag which I had with me almost every time I left the dorm. A super tinker was really easy to EDC and there are keychain clips that attach to the keyring and work really well if a clip is a must.

I currently EDC (pocket carry) a Leatherman Skeletool on a college campus, and I have used every function it has to offer. From my experience so far, I would recommend a similar multi tool or a Swiss Army Knife:

- Leatherman Skeletool
- Leatherman Wingman
- Victorinox Spartan - The corkscrew is very useful ;)

If you really want to buy him/her a dedicated knife, I would recommend an Opinel (No. 6, 7, or 8). I have used my Opinel to eat at libraries, study areas, and dining halls; so far, nobody has ever commented on it. I like to think it's because it opens slowly and looks so plain. It is also well-built as well as feather-weight.

However, above all else, look up the campus regulations on knives and, if applicable, dorm regulations as well. The last thing you want to do is give him/her more worries.

If I were in college and receiving a knife as a gift, I could see myself getting lots more use out of a SAK than a single blade folder.

SOG FLASH 1.
If you can live with some up/down blade play is light and low rider.
It´s my most used EDC for sure

Alox Swiss Army Knife; Soldier, Farmer and Pioneer are all very good, perhaps the Classic if scissors were thought needed.

Benchmade mini grip

Cutlery shop has a a code to lower price, and free shipping(my last one was free), about $60 for an incredible EDC and even more incredible slicer.

STRETCH just a little more
