Recommend me a Knife for EDC @ ~$200

So... I have plenty of fixed blades.
A lot of tactical ones (ESEE's and the like), as well as a lot of "tactical" folders (SOGs/Benchmades/Spydies/etc)....

I need something that is more "gentleman" like but I don't care for multi-bladed slipjoints (have plenty of Case's, kinda boring to me now).

  • Wood or some other "natural" handles would be a plus, but is not required.
  • Good quality but around ~$200 (can go lower of course, and maybe a bit higher).
  • Would also like one that doesn't have a black or some other tactical looking coated blade.
  • Plain edge please, as I don't care for serrations either.
  • I'd like to get a brand I don't currently have right now... like I said plenty of: Benchmades, SOGs, Spydercos, ESEEs, CRKTs, Bokers, Cases, Bucks, Gerbers.
  • Custom or "low-production" would be cool... don't have ANY customs or non-production knives really... besides a custom Blind Horse Knives large workhorse (its a larger fixed blade, though)

Any suggestions? If you suggest a smaller fixed blade, i'd definitely consider as that would fit the bill as well. Folder's are easier to carry though, at least just around town.

I'm all ears, so post and link me up!

I don't have any custom knives but I just got the Spyderco Gayle Bradley in the mail yesterday and I am very impressed with it. It would make a nice EDC for sure.

I was also thinking you might cruise the Falkniven folders and see if one strikes your fancy. I really like my PXL, but would like to get a smaller one also.

Sounds Al Mar is worth a look. They run the line between tactical and gentleman.

Or maybe the A.G. Russell Agents (This would be my personal choice for those requirements)

Actually AG has a few on his site that look like they'd fit well enough.

Mcusta also has some awesome models

I would also suggest an MCusta. There are some excellent choices in their line. I know you said that you'd like to steer away from Spyderco, but their Kopa line always had interesting scale choices and it is a very gentlemanly design.

I know you have Benchmades but I would look at the Mini Dejavoo.
Now, my #1 recommendation is a Chris Reeve Mnandi. Fits your description to the tee with the exception of your budget. You may be able to find a gently used one on the exchange for a little over $200.
The Falkniven TK3 is also a very nice knife.

The Boker Exskelimoor is a nice one as well. I like the Large more than the Small, but either is a fine choice. Bog Oak scales, blue annodized double Ti liners, blue annodized Ti pocket clip for tip up or tip down carry, blue annodized Ti standoffs, 440C blade steel with a clever flipper design at the tang of the blade.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone... really digging the Fallkniven and the McCusta's.

And of course the Mnandi... I would snatch a used one up if it was around ~$250.

The new Benchmade Bone Collector is gonna come with Walnut handles. I absolutely love my Bone Collector and I'm getting one of the walnut ones for sure.

The Bradley Alias would be worth a look too.

Wow i'm really digging these.

The Alias and Sebenza would be considered "gentlemanly" as well, in my opinion... simple and non-threatening since they lack the typical "tactical black" scheme.
