I've been looking for a good traditional fixed blade. combat/utility functionality, for a mate's period piece kit.

would you recommend plain old Ka-Bar USMC?

thanks in advance.

got me one recently. seems like it would meet your needs . and for appx $50, online, i think its one of the best values out there. oh, and made in the U.S.A. its my one and only "big" knife. (for now ) paul

It's 100 bucks over here. :P

I'll put it up to him... he's been known to spend big money on mountain man stuff.

What period is he trying for? Price range? The Ka Bar is a classic for WWII and forward but there are others that would also stand out.

he tells me round about the Second world war, but he's not too fussed if the knife's a couple of years off.

he hasn't said anything about price, i guess he just wanted a list he could narrow down. I could only think of a Ka-Bar, or a Fairburn Sykes...

what did you have in mind, Absintheur?

Hi,

What look is he going for? I think a Fairburn-Sykes would be just the ticket for an Australian kit.

Moving this over to "General" where it is a better fit.

They don't get any more traditional than this IMO.
