Recommend me a traditional knife

So far in my collection I maybe one or two cheapo traditional folders. So, I would like to spend about $30 and get myself a decent traditional folder. I have looked at the case peanut but want to know what else is out there. If enough people recommend a particular knife or I like one that someone recommends I'll get it and post pics and initial impressions.

Take a look at Queen's Workhorse line. They're a little above your $30 limit, but can be had new for under $40. The extra couple of bucks might be worth it.

Look at Rough Rider and Colt knives. Both are excellent knives and come in many traditional styles (and are much less expensive than all those beanie baby Cases). I'm partial to barlows and stockman.

"Decent traditional folder" leaves a lot of room.

You can browse the Case and Buck web sites and see what you like, then shop around at online dealers until you find something in your price rage.

Buck 303 stockman - American made - very good quality - tough knife. The larger 301 would be just a few bucks more (jeez - no pun intended).

$30 is somewhat problematic. Most of the better imports can be bought for under $20 (Rough Rider, Colt, Marbles), and then there is a gap up to the $35 - $40 range, where you will find many fine offerings from Case and Buck.

The new Chinese Schrades are also sub-$30 and not bad quality. I get them so I can wear them out without worrying over an expensive knife.

In addition to my previous post I'd still say go with a 301 though. If you already have a few cheap traditionals then a Schrade would just be another cheapo. Ive seen the 301 (not 371) for under $30 more than once.

I have the buck 371, and the F&F is incredibly good! It's way above its price point. I couldn't be happier with mine and I've owned American made bucks too.

Or a yellow handled trapper in CV would be my other recommendations. I know around me, they can be had for about $35 or so.

Find a couple that you really like and email me and I will see if I have one or two of the ones you like ~~ if you find one you 'really like' then I will gift you the Knife if I have one.!.! If you were looking to buy a really good Knife you would really start by looking in the $40 range and up not $30 and below.! Let me know and I will try and fix you up with whatever.*

Thanks man, just sent you an email through the forums.

That is my take also. I don't know what "cheapo's" you already own or have experience with.

I have found Schrade USA (pawn shops, knife and gun shows) at about this price range and have always been happy with them. The one that comes to mind is the 50T (model) as a good all around pocket carry blade (lock back). This is not the Chinese Schrades being made now, but an older knife and they made lots of them, so you can find them in essentially new condition. Check feabay for offerings.

My other suggestions would fall into what others have said (Rough Rider, Marbles, Colt) unless you want to up the price a little and go with a Case (Peanut, sod buster, trapper) or Buck stockman previously mentioned.
