This coming year I would like to pick up a camera or two for my car and bicycle. Budget would be about $400 each unit.

Car Features sought:
  • Good battery life (about 2-3 hours max needed, more is a bonus) with normal primary or li-ion, or if on power supply, auto power-cutoff.
  • Front and rear recording if possible.
  • Looped/continuous recording.
  • Wifi/GPS a bonus.
  • Decent to Good Nighttime recording.
Bicycle Features sought:

  • Decent Weatherproofness.

If there is camera that can be used for both purposes (Action Camera) that can serve both purposes then all the more better. I have heard of both and briefly looked into both the GoPro and iON Air Pro series. I don't know if the iON will do looped recording but it looks to be rugged enough for use on my bike handles, while being able to go on to a dashboard mount (another mount go in rear of vehicle I suppose). GoPro allows for looped recording but separate case is needed to weatherproof it, and due to it's body configuration, I am unsure how much it could take were I to wipe out on my bike.

This is a very new area to me and I am not up to speed with any of this so I look forward to learning. I am sure there are many other options and hope to hear about other suggestions.

Team Associated has a camera that I have been wanting for a while. The "replay" I think. Check out rc10.com. The size and shape are a lot more to my liking than the go-pro. I'm not. Sure how the features stack up in comparison.

Thought that I would toss this out there, since it doesn't seem that most people are familiar with this one.

If the GoPro can handle going inside burning buildings attached to a fire helmet, survive Iraq and Afghanistan, and jumps from a plane, it will survive a wipe out on your mountain bike.

;)

I vote GoPro as well. I was looking into buying one to use as a dash cam.

For our biking my dad and I use the GoPro primarily but also have the Contour Roam. The GoPro is very good just because of the quality and the available accessories and mounts. The hard part of the Contour Roam is finding a good sturdy mount for mountain biking or road cycling.
