I'm looking for a fixed blade knife with a solid kydex sheath. The knife is going to be a duty knife and ride under my drop leg holster. I'm looking to spend around 50 bucks for the knife
 
The exchange for a used one. Cause I can't think of any a fixed blade for 50 USD that comes with a solid kydex sheath...
 
I would tell you to get a BK 14/24. It comes with a plastic sheath with a good solid retention- plus you don't want too big of a knife. It is nice and flat.

Yeah, you are only going to get close to that price with a Becker or Kabar. Save up a couple of more bucks and get a BK-16.

I definitely agree with this. I have a bk14 (buy the $10 scales- makes a big difference) attached to my drop leg just as you describe (I go support side gas mask drop leg instead of strong side - cuz of sympathetic reflex/ retention and all that stuff).

I like a small fixed blade cuz opening a folder with nomex gloves sux. I don't find I need a larger fixed blade unless a mission specific wooded search arrises... Then I just grab a larger knife out of the truck. However I do carry a cats claw. I find a prying tool to be more important than a large fixed plate. And I run out of real estate fast. If you want to go slightly larger... An ontario rat 3 can be found used in your $$$ wheelhouse.

If plastic sheaths are okay I would recommend an ESEE Izula of the exchange or save some more for an Izula II or ESEE-3 or maybe even an ESEE-4 if that is not too heavy(?) But I completely agree with a Becker BK 14/24 as well! Best recommendation for your budget. If it really has to be brand spanking new from the online store and 50 USD, I would also recommend to take a look at the Cold Steel Mini Tac or Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter (they both are way less than 50 USD, although I have to admit that the plastic sheaths of Cold Steel dull your knife a little). At least I assume that you don't want to hang a pound of fixed blade under your drop leg holster...?

If your budget was 170 USD I would recommend a Survive! GSO 3.5 in CPM 3V, that comes with real kydex. Cold Steel will come out with CPM 3V fixed blades as well for less than that, like the 3V Pendleton Mini Hunter!

Personally, if I were you, and I am not looking for a Mora, I would not buy a 50 USD fixed blade, but just save more and get one good one in CPM 3V. It is super though steel and with 7.5% Chromium it will not rust as quick as 1095.

$50 is about the cost of a solid kydex sheath.
 
I think at the end of the day we are going to need more information from you. Size hands? Use (multi use/ utility- bk14, izula / izula 2, rat 3, etc or tactical/ weapon retention - kabar TDI, cold steel push dagger, etc)? For that price are you willing to give in a little on something (steel type, handle material, sheath)? Desired blade size? Serrations? Come on man, help us help you :)
 
I would highly recommend against that for weapon retention issues. You can't guard two weapons on the same side at the same time.

Well, I do think its a serious concern. I also think a drop leg holster and a fixed blade knife carried openly on patrol is a terrible idea. Drop leg holsters have serious issues for the patrol officer, and despite looking cool, they are intended only for when wearing an entry vest and carrying a long gun.

Which is exactly what it's being used for, this is a SWAT rig
 
Little updaye on this, I've been looking all over for the bk 14/17/24 and haven't found one. Anyone got a pic of the kydex sheath it'll come with?
