I carry a small folder for everyday jobs (letter opening/box cutting/etc), rotate between several different models every few days. The small knife is usually less than 3" in blade length, a dressy-type folder.
I also carry a larger knife, a 4"-ish folder that serves as a heavier-duty knife and possible last-ditch weapon. At first it was a BM 710, and for the last year I've been carrying a Gerber Combat in this role, but I've finally decided that it's not quite the right knife.
I really love it for the most part. The size is perfect, the weight is pretty good, the handle shape is right on, and I like the blade geometry.
It doesn't have a clip, which is annoying but not a huge deal. The thing that I can't deal with anymore is the blade configuration. It's a partially serrated, which I hate. I feel that partially serrated doesn't leave enough of either blade type to be useful. Also, the false edge along the back doesn't run back far enough to be useful if sharpened, yet makes it difficult to push with the thumb on the back of the blade for aggressive cutting.
So: is there a knife out there that's almost exactly like the Gerber Combat, but different? Thanks.
