Hi Guys,

I'm going on a two nighter in early November and I need to get a warmer sleeping bag. I probably need a +15 degree bag (Or thereabouts).
I loathe mummy bags, so I need a square foot design.
It also needs to be reasonably light for backpacking and NOT down filled, I have allergies. Primoloft, Polarguard etc would be best.
I want to use an external pad with it.

I'm about 6 feet and 175lbs. I sleep on my side and I tend to sleep hot.

I don't want to spend too much, but any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I will have to order online (I'm in Japan), so I will not get the chance to try it out first.

Light, inexpensive, square foot, not down, and for backpacking don't really go together, but my immediate thought is for a Climashield quilt. I don't know much about the different ones available(beyond that you'll need a pad with a minimum of 4 or 5 for the r-value and a good baselayer to use them with), but maybe a quilt is worth looking at for you.

Hard criteria, I know. That's why I came to you chaps:D

I wouldn't say "Money is no object.", but I don't mind something spendy.

Hey, it's a mummy bag, and $300, but Kifaru's 20 degree Slick Bag might be something to check out. Climashield, and packs down pretty small for a synthetic. They advertise that they have a large footbox for getting in with boots on. Foliage green...very tactical:D
There are 40 and 0 degree versions, too.

What do you have now? Maybe you could make it work with some extra layers that you already own, and a liner or something, rather than buy a new bag just for a two-night trip. That's my plan to keep from buying another bag just for conditions I rarely encounter.

I concur with OwenM..the 20 degree Kifaru is designed to be wider in the foot area so you can sleep with your boots on (their claim). I have one and of course I had to try it. And yes you can sleep with your boots on. While it isn't Hilton comfortable with boots on inside the bag it does work and works fairly well. Without the boots there is plenty of room relative to other similar brands/designs.

This bag packs down extremely well...which is the main reason I purchased it. This is my main go to synthetic now.

Check out the snugpak sleeper lite square foot. I was comfortable down to 25F and I sleep kinda cold. I am 6ft and around 200lb and I had plenty of room. Good quality and are very reasonable priced.

The Wiggy's and the Kifaru's are VERY nice, but I don't think they'll be able to make and ship to me in time. I mailed them both and hopefully I'll get a reply soon on if they have any in stock.
GW, I like Snugpak, so I'll have to look into the Sleeper Lite. Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming.

Owen, I used to have a NF bag (I forget the model). It was mummy style and I hated sleeping in it. Fortunately/unfortunately it was ripped when my bedroom wall collapsed in the earthquake. All I have now is my Snugpak Jungle bag. Great bag for summer, but even with layers I don't think it will be warm enough. Plus, the layers will all be extra weight.

I have a North Face Dolomite sleeping bag and it has suited me just fine. Seems to fit your criteria as well. Best of all, you can find it for under $100 bucks.

They offer the Sleeper Lite in a mummy style as well. If you order be sure to get the square foot. Another nice thing about the Sleeper Lite is that they come in left hand zip and right hand zip. That way you can zip two together when you camp with your wife or girlfriend or just use a single unit for solo camping.

I placed an order for a Kifaru 20 degree slick bag on 9-23 and the expected ship date is 11-3 fwiw.

Thanks. I think the kifaru or wiggy bag will have to be a future purchase.

Johnnyt, the Dolomite looks great. I looked around at some online stores, but shipping to Japan is restricted by NF and after checking here, I couldn't find one.

GW. I finally went with your recommendation, the Snugpak Sleeper lite. I figure that I can use my jungle bag as a liner if I'm too cold.

Thanks for all the help.
