I am looking at either the microtech socom elite (manual) or the al mar sere 2000. I have never held the microtech so I don't know. I am worried that I would pop $300 for a knife I am not happy with. I want to be able to not fear the knife breaking if I use it to pry or use it as a screwdriver as I am not with my ZT 0200. What would you recommend?

Neither knife will make a good pry bar or screwdriver. If you need that sort of service use a screwdriver or a short pry bar, as a knife costing way over 100 dollars is a expense cutting tool to damage with misuse.

Buy a leatherman, It has a screwdriver. Most companies warn you "Never use your knife as a prybar". The right tool for the right job.

If you want something tough in the style you are looking at try the Strider and pry away till your hearts content. These are bullet proof knives and razor sharp.

I feel that the S2K is the finest prod. liner lock made today. I have had a few and kept one. Don't really carry it much so I gave it to my brother and he loves it. All that being said the ones I have owned have been outstanding for fit and finish. Highly finished, excellant lock up, scary sharp, and good handle ergo's. I have owned an elite also. The only problem I have had with that knife is the wing walker inserts. Just didn't like them. Just my opinion. keepem sharp

If you want a knife you can use as a pry bar get an ang khola HI khukuri, that should serve for anything you want to do with it.
