Hey everyone. I'm new to Kuks and I'm having a hard time picking which to make my first. I'm not sure what makes one model better than the other so I was hoping someone could give me some suggestions. Id want this one to be a user and am leaning toward the 16.5-18" size. I'd be using it for a chopper/camp knife. I've been kind of leaning toward the Ang Khola, WWII, or M-43 from HI. I can't say why for sure but they just seem to catch my eye. I'd love some input on these or any other style for that matter. Also, would you suggest bone or wood, and why? Thanks!

Hey bud I'm new too khukris too, but not big honkin' blades:cool: I just ordered a Chiruwa AK in horn, 1/2" thick and full tang! I like the looks and size of the wwII but it's not as thick as I wanted, and I dont think it was full tang. The M43 is a sweet looking blade, no doubt about it, but I don't think it would have the lateral strength of an Ang Khola, neither would the wwII for that matter. I ordered the AK as a gift for a friend that likes my Busse BM's, and it will be fed a steady diet of hard woods... I'm afraid he may out chop my bigguns.:o Just my thoughts though, not an expert opinion. I just ordered it, and have never had the pleasure of using a khukri, so I can't comment on it's performance. I should have the knife in hand this coming Wednesday, I will post some comparison pictures that evening.

The only HI khuk I have is an M43 and I highly recommend it, even without the others to compare it to. It feels just right in my hand. The AK's probably a better chopper, but I've done some pretty heavy chopping with the M43 and it's taken it all so far. It's also light enough that my arm doesn't wear out from prolonged use. As for horn vs. wood, take whichever one you want. The wood might be a bit grippier, though I haven't had any issues with my horn handle in that regard. The horn might be a bit more durable, but if so, the difference is negligible.

My first, and still favorite, is the big WWII. Do not worry about the hidden tang. These things are beastly.

How about a new sticky:

FIRST KHUK ? recommendations and reasons.

Granted, I got my first triangular box of goodness only 9 months ago. But I'd have to say the best first Khukuri is the one you finally decide to buy. That's the only way to get a feel for these unique knives. (You don't have to start small either!)

1. 20" Chiruwa Ang Khola
2. 12" Sirupati
3. 15" Chiruwa Ang Khola (In the mail!)

That's not a bad idea:) If any of the old hands want to post up a thread, that would be great. If not, I'll try to compile some thoughts on the matter when i get a few moments to spare:thumbup:

Thanks for all the tips! I'm trying to sell off a few knives that I'm not using so that I can fund one of these beasts. I'm leaning toward an HI 16.5-18" Chiruwa Ang Khola. I know these are all well built but I like the idea of a full tang.

Already Done, but your input is probably needed further as is everyone elses.

I know these are all well built but I like the idea of a full tang.

Traditional tangs absorb a lot of the shock of blade to wood contact.

The Chiruwa tang also changes the Khuk's center of balance compared to the traditional style construction.

Also my full tang Khuk grip is much larger in diameter than any of my traditional style models.
