Hi to all...

Can someone please recommend me a nice looking budget/value traditional knife with a lanyard hole on it?

Personally I just really like the feature of a lanyard hole, I don't know much about traditional knives, and mostly all I see have no lanyard hole.

Any comments or recommendation would be much appreciated. Id like to get a budget knife, I know you guys post beautiful knives, then I look on the internet to see its a custom or a $200 knife...:(

As far as my traditional knife collection goes I only have one other knife its a Schrade Old-Time 34OT, so Im not a knife expert or collector as far as my knife background.

Many thanks!

(Sorry I know the term budget is vague so maybe on the low-end of the price scale compared to what other knives cost...I dont mind if its made in China, or something like that. As long as its like a budget value knife with good value for the money Id be happy. Thanks.)

If a bigger knife is what you are looking for, Case Back Pocket designed by Tony Bose. 4 1/2" or 4 5/8" Closed I cannot remember exactly. Originally offered only in SS but now in carbon steel as well I believe. Around $70

I would look at the A.G. Russell Cowboy and Rancher. It is based on the sodbuster, comes in yellow or black delrin/rucarta with modern stainless steel. Well-made (from China, though). But a good knife for the money.

Might I suggest that you give a rough idea of how much you are willing to spend?
Everyone has their own idea of what a 'budget' knife is.
When I hear 'budget' and 'china', I think of a ~$10 rough rider, not a $70 case, but everyone is different.
I see you're relatively new to traditionals, and I think you'll be surprised at what you can get for under $20 if you don't mind a foreign made knife.

Thanks, that looks great, I will just see if there is anything else for a bit less money. But I know the Case are really great quality.

Yes, I really like folders, I just equate traditional knifes with folders for some reason, with the stag or bone type handle, or the derelin, something like that.

Thanks, those look really nice...I just did a search...

Is there a similar model to the Buck 112, but with a lanyard hole, and derelin instead of the wood?

I know that Schrade used to make similar knives but they went out of business...

You could get a Wenger Soldier that has a hasp on it. Remove the hasp with a pair of pliers and you have a lanyard hole. That might work. You get a good knife with a hole in it. Maybe not the best but there are plenty of them around if you look a little bit.

I'd be inclined to find a knife I liked and drill a lanyard hole if it didn't have one.
There are some nice folk on this forum, and I'm sure someone would drill a hole for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Try googling "rough rider lockback" if you want a very low budget but still decent quality knife, or if you want to spend a little more, you really can't go wrong with a Buck.

If you just want a lanyard on your knife, I'd recommend a Douk Douk, which is a well-made French slipjoint with a bail. Some might not like the all-metal construction, but I think it's an excellent cheap alternative, around $20 or so IIRC.

Both the Case backpocket and the AG Russell Cowboy and they are my most carried knives. We use a woven leather thong through the lanyard hole & would highly recommend both. The cowboy is < $40 shipped and a smaller version is available. The CV case with chestnut bone is as beautiful as the picture shows.

EKA Swede 88 has not been mentioned yet - a simple traditional pattern lock back with a lanyard hole. Ragnar has them for $37 in standard version, or $40 with oak scales. They are a little big at over 4" closed, but very durable.

Does it need to be a lanyard hole? You can find a few knives with a bail instead, especially camp knives.

I agree, with bails you could get a RR380 Rough rider razor jack...I personally like this one because of the bail and easy open.

I forgot about the Douk Douk it would be hard to go wrong with one IMO it's french made, carbon steel, and tougher than all get out.

Some of the German traditionals have lanyard holes...
Look at the Loewenmesser 9963, for example.

and these, from the same maker...

I am currently carrying a Remington Baby Bullet repro. I really like this knife and it is very pocket friendly at 3 5/8".
