First of all, I'm really just getting interested in traditionals. Finding a certain joy to hearing that snap when one closes and a pure pleasure when it slices like a champ. Now that I'm more interested and know what I might be looking for, I'm ready to spring for a "nice" folder. Looking for recommendations as I am relatively new to this arena. I know this is really a personal decision, but I would appreciate some input.

Thanks

Here are the facts:
I am a female so I don't want to carry anything larger than 3" closed. I know that limits the options but try whipping out a larger knife at the preschool parent meetings.
I like a wharncliffe or sheepsfoot or spear point
I would like something thin
Number of blades - 1 or 2

Any ideas or recommendations...

I'll speak in favor of the GEC Pemberton #06 as well. It's a beautiful little knife, with a very fine fit and finish.

The only pattern of that size with a spear master blade that comes to mind is a Case Baby Butterbean. If you are willing to stretch the closed length to 3 1/8", then a Case Mini Copperhead or a Queen #46 Half Whittler are both available with a wharncliffe blade. The length of the blades on those knives are still pretty short.

First thing first. Being female IMHO has no bering on the size knife you carry. Second I most always carry small. There is a thread should be close to the top that is full of smalls. My favorite is the tadpole but the wrong blade for you. Going by your post my second fav would fit if you could find one, case tiny trapper w single wharncliffe. Much easier to find and a close third for me is the case mini copperhead w/wharncliffe

My vote is
Case XX Knife
POCKET WORN OLD RED BONE SWAY BACK GENT
Pattern Number: TB61117 SS
Blades: WHARNCLIFFE
Length Closed: 3 3/16"

Im choosing it for you because it has a classic form, has the blade you asked for, happens to be in stainless, so it wont look dirty at school, and as a single blade it is exceptionally thin and light. Also the pocketworn finish is a beautiful thing to hold and behold.

Here is a Sway Back Jack, the thicker 2 blade version of the Gent, as well as a mini copperhead, see this thread
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/844208-Case-Mini-Copperhead-Wharncliffe , which is worth considering as well, it is a single spring knife, which I like, again because it is thin.

those are all over your 3" limit, so maybe not of interest. For under 3" I recommend a Case Peanut, but it does not come in your blade choice.

Here is my fancy peanut.. many people start with a Yellow Delrin Peanut, there is a cult of the peanut thread

with lots of pics too..

jon makes a good recommendation there.

GEC 25s are very nice knives,I have a few but they're not slim, quite heavy&burly for their size...

Thanks, Will

Here's a pic of the Case Mini Copperhead in magenta bone. 3 1/8" in the closed position.

I'd echo the recommendation for the Case wharncliffe mini copperhead; the mini trapper is a fine knife, but quite a pocketful at 3.5".

I understand your concerns regarding size, but no matter what knife you choose, please don't "whip it out" anywhere! ;)

Your attitude and approach can go a long way toward others' acceptance (or even, lack of awareness!) of your chosen knife.

Welcome! :)

This Al Mar Osprey made by Moki is semi-traditional and about as nonthreatening as you can get. The build quality is off the chart.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I have a lot to think about. Going to look around. Thanks again.

It ain't too pretty, but my Buck 309, has proven to be a grand EDC choice. It's right at 3" closed, and sports great steel, for a traditional.

One of the most preeschool friendly knives is the Victorinox Classic
It has scissors, nail file, tweezers, toothpick, screwdriver, and a spearpoint blade.. I think its only 2.25" closed.
I love having scissors

jon, I have one of those RR locking Barlows, although in rather more er, macho-garb... :D the black Armadillo/armour bone. It's a very nice worker and has smooth opening. Real value.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Osprey that Rick has is amazing. Real quality job there, wonder if there are other handle options?

Thanks, Will

Those knives are fantastic. I'd probably go crazy buying them if I but had one. I really like the Al Mar series this belongs to. I must resist....

However, I must recommend the mini copperhead. I have 3 wharncliffe models now, including the one shown a few posts up. I don't think you would go wrong with one of those and there is a large selection of covers including this blue bone:

I think that may qualify as 'knock yer socks off drop dead gorgeous!'

Is that abalone or black lip pearl?

Linking to this open sale is a no no. Any questions would be answered in the forum guidelines.
Fell free to post the image though.

Wow...both the Osprey and the blue Mini Copperhead are really attractive! I could be in line for both.
