Recommendation for a good EDC fixed blade?

Hey all, I am looking for a new fixed blade knife for every day carry (but I also want a solid knife that can stand up to some abuse in the wilderness as well) and am not quite sure what to get. I'm looking in the 4 1/2" to 6" range between $50 and $80. Right now I'm looking at the SOG Seal Pup Elite, the SOG Ops, and the Cold Steel SRK, which are all AUS-8 steel and have primarily good reviews. However, I also just found Scrapyard Knives which has a 5 inch blade in my price range, and their knives have really good reviews as well. If any of you have experience with any of these knives or another one that fits my criteria I would really appreciate your input. Thanks.

I have the plain edge SOG Seal Pup Elite. It is a good knife. It might be a little big for EDC unless you are going to carry it out in the country. I got it a number of years ago when I purchased quite a few SOG blades... I was learning. I still like them overall and they frequently get a bad rap by folks on the forums.

The Scrapyard knives are pretty good knives.

I'm always searching for the perfect knife.... I bought a Dozier K-42 Personal with a sheepsfoot blade design (and kydex horizontal belt sheath) that was purchased to be my EDC knife (urban). It is no fighting knife. It ran more than your budget at about $250. But it is a fine knife. The Canoe would also make a good EDC blade and it runs around $200. Yes, these are custom knives.

One you might look at is the Spyderco Moran. It is a sweet little fixed blade and excellent steel.

Check out the ESEE and Kabar Becker line up too. They are all good knives and pretty cost effective. A lot of people really like the Izula for a EDC knife.

Rimfire offered lots of great advice and I can't agree more about the izula. It's a little shorter blade than you're looking for but I Edc the crap out of my izula II and its great for pocket carry and has been more than up to the task for the plethora of hard use projects I put mine too. Definitely not worth overlooking.

That being said, I'm a total ESEE homer :p

Thanks for the input. The Esee 5 looks like it is exactly what I am looking for, so it might be worth waiting a bit longer to save up and get it, and I like the look of the Izula as well.

Wow. Are you sure you are able to EDC a knife as large as the ESEE-5? Check you knife laws on blade length. Usually the laws apply in urban areas and you can carry whatever you like out in the country. I just don't want you getting in trouble walking downtown somewhere with you ESEE-5. Good knife however!
