I used to carry all my stuff on my belt but it was to heavy for edc. I carry a becker bk9,mora,snare wire,2 farro rods,Altoids tin, swis army knife,canteen,rice,7x9x3 cook kit. I want a small pack for that stuff & I don't really want to carry it in a backpack.I would like something like a purse:D:o & vary tough. preferably MOLLE.

You really carried all that on your belt every day?!

I have a Kifaru Tailgunner that is very verasatile. It can be carried with a shoulder strap and as a lumbar pack. Kevin Estela wrote a review up on his around here somewhere for carrying the 10 essentials as an edc bag.

yeah except the canteen cook set & the rice

I use a Timbuk2 small Messenger bag
Very sturdy and well made
Plenty of room
It goes in and out of the woods and draws no attention to itself

How about a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack? Sounds perfect! I love mine. And it's "Murse" ("Man-purse"), not "Purse." ;)

Stay sharp,

HPG Tara, Very comfy small with the option to expand slightly or pack things on the out side of it. I know is not a man purse type but I love mine:)

Go with the Tailgunner. If you don't want military colors, the Mountainsmith Daypack will do the same job just minus the refinements. Absolutely go with the shoulder strap option as it allows you to make the lumbar pack part of a modular system you can layer on top of. Message me if you have any questions about it.

+1 Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack, get the one with the drawstring water resistant collar. I use it as a daypack while hunting, it has plenty of room for what you want to carry.

Let us know what u decided to go with. I can post pics of my mountain smith lumber pack loaded up if you like:)

+1 on the mountain smith with shoulder straps. I have both, and have used both extensively, (mountainsmith and the jumbo). While the jumbo is cool, it doesn't carry near as well as the mountain smith all loaded up. I recently sold my mountain smith and got a kifaru mollex. I'll never go back now. Although anything kifaru isn't cheap, but well worth it IMO.

Have one of these too. The above comments are absolutely true. A great shoulder bag.

Where will you be using it? Really.

For in the woods or for storing stuff in the back of the car that I can grab and go to head into the woods at a moment's notice, I think fanny/lumbar packs or small backpacks are the right way to go. I don't care for these around town though. Getting things out of a backpack while it's on you is a pain and there's no good way to carry a fanny pack around other than on your butt. Feh.

A possible compromise for around town would be a lumbar pack that comes with a shoulder strap. Downside with this approach can be the hip belt all clanging around all the time.

For around town, I used to use messenger bags. They come in all sizes, are generally very tough and don't attract any attention. A huge benefit of these is that to get things out while you're wearing it, you just need to spin it around your body. But, I don't like dealing with the flaps to get things out.

I've been using a sling pack for my EDC stuff for a couple of years now. By far my preferred way around town. I can hike short distances with fairly comfortably and don't hesitate using it on day trips and general purpose. The one I've settled on looks like a standard backpack and doesn't attract attention in most places. Small messenger bags are still better in that regard, I think.

This isn't the one I have but gives you the basic idea. There are military flavored ones out there too, if that's more your style.
