Recommendation for an EDC fixed blade

I've been looking at various fixed blades for every day carry (EDC) and am having trouble deciding. I wear a suit everyday so something that's easiy concealable and comfortable is a necessity. Bud Nealy has some nice designs and I like his MCS carry system. Simonich also has some nice fixed blades. I'd like to keep it under $200. Any other recommendations? I'd appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this.

Take a look at Bob Dozier's Personal, Straight Personal or Companion. I'm not sure about the suit-carry situation, but they are small enough that they can be simply dropped into a pocket with the kydex sheath. The sheath can be "thumbed" off in pocket for ready access to the knife.

As long as we're on Doziers, check out the Arkansas Toothpick and the Canoe. They are both very compact but tough and extremely sharp. The Canoe, which I just got, is especially slim, Which makes it less noticeable in use.

Winston Knives has some awesome fixed blades. You can ussually find them in the Custom Exchange.

I would say the Strider MFS, it's 200.00, but I think it might be a little bif for an EDC... :(

Thanks for the input. Does Dozier have a sheath/carry system for his fixed blades? That is one of the reasons I was initially interested in Bud Nealy.

Thanks,

Here's Bob Dozier's website. In the column at the left is an item ot click on for sheaths. Bob is a custom knifemaker, and can provide the specific sheath you prefer.

The Canoe model comes in a 1 7/8 x 4" neck sheath, where the kydex at the open end flares out slightly at one corner. Pressing this flare with the thumb releases the blade.

Dozier's smaller knives have a horizontal, belt-carry setup. It's not a multi-carry system like Nealy and some others. You would have to have that done for you by a sheathmaker. In fact, Bob Dozier does real good work with kydex. He could probably work up a system for you.

These are incredible for the price... Will could charge double and still be backordered. I have/carry the model DES in high polish ATS34 w/ black Linen micarta handle and NO bolster. His leather work in the sheath is very good as well... simple, but well made.

I went to the Busse web site and couldn't locate the Active Duty. Does anyone have a link or pic?

Thanks

Take a look at Ron Clark's knives. Great knives, great sheaths and great prices! His differentially heat treated O-1 is really sweet. He is my hands down favorite small EDC fixed blade maker in the $150 range.

I gotta put a vote in for a Simonich midtech CROWFOOT!! It is a great daily carry piece in S30V at $129! I don't think you'll find a better knife at that price! I love mine!

For a working no nonsense blade from an experienced maker, take a real close look at Dozier mades. His quick on- off horizontal belt sheaths are actually very slightly canted with the butt up. This allows for a natural and quick draw while worn on the strong side abdomen or in the crossdraw position. Comfortable, accessible, secure, and an excellent molded fit of course. His special heat treated D2 is the best in the business. Notice any factory and custom makers using this steel lately? :) The handle shape of Dozier mades are made from decades of experience. Bob knows what a working knife should feel like. They are also priced right. Most small/ medium models at under $200.

While Bob does not catalog multipositional sheaths (not yet at least ;) ) he can make various sheaths for the same knife- near horizontal, vertical, low riding wilderness, or even shoulder/ chest rig. Give Linda Dozier a call to discuss the particulars.

BTW, Bob now has his own forums on blade discussion and more. Go to his web site and click onto the forums. A great wealth of information.

I just went ahead and ordered the Busse Active Duty. What a great looking knife:eek: It's exactly what I had in mind (thanks for the recommendation Contender; and thanks for the pics OwenM). It was a little more than I was planning on spending but once I saw it it was love at first sight. Four to six weeks is the time frame but they said it might ship earlier. Woudldn't that be a nice Christmas present for myself:D

The Crowfoot was also a consideration but the pics of the Active Duty helped sell it.

I'm not sure if I'll like the leather sheath, though. Does anyone know someone who will make a kydex sheath for me?

Thanks,
