recommendation for cheap woods knife

Woodswalker from AG Russell. The name says it all. :)

I'm also a fan of Mora and other Scandinavian brand knives. Buck Pathfinder or Woodsman. Opinel. Old Hickory kitchen knife with a home-made sheath. Maybe a Swiss Army Knife with corkscrew, especially if you happen to be wandering in the woods near a winery. ;)

^^^^ Whenever I see a title with a similar heading the first image that my mind conjures up is an Old Hickory Butcher knife in a homemade, or universal sheath of a sort. They make fine knives for general use and sport a full tang. Also I'm quite fond of the Opinels when it comes to an inexpensive folder. Then you've got the Svord Peasant knife which is an acquired taste in some regards. Moras are fine too, and a little on the light/thin side, which makes them grand for lighter wood working, also Martini makes the Condor Tmiberjack fixed blades, that share a ton of similarities, with some of the more utilitarian Moras.

2.5" = Victorinox Farmer
4" = Mora
6" = Cold Steel True Flight Thrower or Bushman
13" = Cold Steel Kukri machete

I'd also look into a Fiskars hatchet. The combo of FIskars hatchet and Mora or SAK is pretty darn good.

Mora or Condor are my top choices, but it depends on what you want to do with it! Tons of great inexpensive but quality choices out there these days. :)

I do not know the experience of the OP, but it may be just getting started and wants to try it out or just wants to have a good cheap knife that will work and not cost a great deal to replace, that is my guess. In my own experience, I just want to try different things to gain experience and see what works for me. My sharpening skills leave a lot to be desired so I want to practise and still have a knife for daily chores. Trust me I have all kinds from custom to factory made, but I plan to rotate them around so I can learn. I just would rather learn on my utiltarian stuff before I go on trying to sharpen my custom stuff. +1 on the moras, condor and old hickory brands.
