Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here could recommend me a damadcus knife maker in the US who doesn't require a batch of knives to be made per custom request and who won't charge over 200 USD, if such a thing is possible.

I just want a little 9.5 inch OL dagger made for me in damascus.

Gary Wheeler has always impressed me. He has his JS stamp and he does make knives that are affordable. $200 is a stretch. If you were to buy a piece of Damascus and built the knife yourself it would be hard to keep it that cheap.

Especially as a one off design.

You'd be lucky to find O1 with micarta dagger for that price.

Maybe try to modify something off of fleabay by yourself?

Best Regards,

I think Dan Graves would come closest to making that at that price point but you'll have to confer with Dan to get an actual quote. He is a member here so just put his name in the search box and go from there.

If you can qualify your request to someone outside the US I can email you a possible recommendation - a Blade Forum maker nonetheless.

$200 for a Damascus dagger of any quality is going to be a challenge. $300+>you're see some opportunities.

A billet alone, big enough for your project, would be most of your budget.

Now, from where are we talking about?

Here is ONE link to show an example - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1327116-Dacian-scrapmascus

Check out his links at the bottom. There are many examples of this artist knife makers work. I believe this one in the link with the sheath sold for $240.00. Without a sheath - who knows? You are asking for a long, hand made, double edged blade. As others have suggested your bottom line might be bottomed out.

Anyway - he does one blade at a time - can be 200 layers. Good communication and service history - from my experience too. Reasonably priced as much as you can expect for this one-off type of work. Worth sending him an e-mail with your specs to price out. Funny though - his sharpening, by his own admission, is kind of hit or miss but otherwise he makes a truly exceptional product. You just might need to tune up the edge once you get it.

Jason Wilder?

Thanks Rolf.

I don't make my own Damascus very often but might be able to buy a billet of Alabama Damascus for your price.

With that being said, I would also agree that Dan Graves does make his own fantastic Damascus and might be within the OP price range
