Hi all,

Need a little help here. A friend is having a birthday soon and I want to buy a knife for him. He's just getting in to collecting and has a few knives...pocket, bowie, and an old blade bought off an old guy who had a good knife story.

My question is..I know very little about knives and I don't know what to get and I want this to be meaningful. The friend seems to know a decent amount about knife quality, manufacturers, etc. Just hasn't gotten around to buying much yet. Can anyone recommend something interesting that would be a slam dunk kind of thing for a knife lover?

I'm thinking something along the lines of either a dagger or some sort of larger folding knife (not a pocket). I'm not sure why those in particular...I guess it just fits my friend's personality

Sorry for my lack of knowledge in this area.

Not sure what your budget is.

RJ Marin makes a nice double edged manta ray skin dagger that fits nicely on the belt horizontally. I own two of them. They are rock solid, although a bit pricey. The blades are short enough to be suitable for every day carry. Have a look at www.martinsite.com

Hope this helps.

Yeah, probably the most important thing to specify when asking these types of questions here is price range ;)

Since you are looking for a "larger" pocket-knife that is (normally) worn in a belt-sheath, I would suggest a Buck 110...The Buck 110 is a classic.
