My father-in-law's birthday is coming up and I don't know what to get him. He has never used anything we have ever gotten him and it sits in a drawer and collects dust. He isn't a knife person but I'm thinking of getting him one anyway.

I'm thinking something inexpensive as it may end up in the junk drawer

I'm thinking a buck 110 or schrade of some type but I don't know much about these knives (not my cup of tea).

Please give me your suggestions!

I should mention, that although he is not a knife guy and doesn't own a pocket knife, there have been numerous occasions which he asked to borrow my knife to cut something. That is why I am thinking about getting him his own.

Kershaw Guy has a gentleman's folder that would probably be a great choice. Micarta scales good steel great price. Kershawguy.com

I am a Kershaw/ZT fan but not familiar with their gents folders. I will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

For a guy like that I suggest a knife that's small-ish and inconspicuous. And yet you obviously want something nice enough to be worthy as a gift, and without costing too much money...

Maybe something from AG Russell, like the Ultimate Pen Knife or the 2.5 Titanium Lockback. Very modern, and available either plain or with nice scales.

If he's more of an "old fashioned" father-in-law, maybe shoot for a traditional-styled pocketknife.

If he enjoys tinkering, gadgets, or outdoor activities maybe he'd like a Swiss Army Knife?

Lots of ideas out there. Happy shopping!

Thanks for the suggestions, Bob. I will look at the AG Russell knives but they are probably a little too expensive. I hate to spend more than $40 - $50 just in case he throws it in a drawer.

EDIT: I just checked the prices and they are very reasonable! I have seen some AG Russell knives that are very expensive but the pen knife isn't bad at all. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I ordered a A.G. Russell™ 3.0 Titanium Lockback Folder. If he throws it in a drawer I will be happy to just add it to my collection :D
