New to traditionals but I want something for dressier occasions. I have researched the makers I see in this forum a lot. So far I'm partial to GEC designs like their Farm & Field Sodbusters. However, I'm sure there are lots of makers I'm ignorant about.

My requirements:
$150 or thereabouts
Made in the USA
Carbon steel with a preference toward tool steel
Single blade preferred & 3-4" (roughly)
Micarta, stag, or bone scales
Bolsters should be anything but brass and no more than a single bolster (zero bolsters are okay too)
Lanyard hole would be nice
Great fit and finish
Not too busy with blade etchings
A knife to pass onto my son.

Thanks gents.

The criteria u list I would say go with Tidioute models 23 or 73. They come with lanyard hole and have steel bolsters.

I second the 73. One of the finest production slipjoints currently made.

As huge of a Bullnose fan as I am, the 73 in stag is as pretty and useful as it gets! I have one and it's a gem. The Micarta Bullnoses, especially the maroon, are a great and cheaper option. Queen has the Sodbuster in Micarta with d2 steel as well. Moore Maker has a sodbuster in yellow bone with 1095 steel, that's a beauty with good carbon steel, made by Queen.

Isn't this an Anniv for your knife Christian? IIRC you got that for Fathers day a year or so back? It's one of my favorite knives here on the Forum - a beauty! :)

It is. Thanks for remembering, lol... My daughter gave me this knife for Father's Day two years ago. It's become the One, relegating my other knives to supplemental carries.

Ah great congrats then... Yes to truly have found The One is something few ever attain! The quest for the elusive One drives many to madness! :)

Another GEC #73 fan, this one in primitive bone.

Just so I'm covering all bases in the price point (Besides the GEC line which I like), what about the following brands:
1) Ka-Bar
2) Queen
3) Case XX (looks like only vintage blades are carbon steel?)
4) Moore

With all the new knives GEC comes out with the 73 gets overlooked sometimes. More than a few of us have them with stag. It must be a good seller, this is one of the only examples I can think of where GEC actually does re-runs with the same cover material. It's the closest they have to a regular item.
