Hey all,

I'm looking for a recommendation of a small fixed blade or neck knife in a modern steel like Elmax, CPM M4, CPM-Cruwear etc. I don't have a specific budget, I don't mind spending $200-$300 (Canadian) if it's the right knife.

I carry an Izula quite often because I love the size and utilitarian drop-point blade shape. That 1095 blade though, has horrible edge retention. I really like the thinness of the Izula with my paracord wrap handle.

I prefer USA made knives, but it don't have to be, it just can't be made in China. I'm not looking for anything too 'tactical', as I use this knife for many things so my intent isn't for a backup PDW or any philosophy like that.

What are you guys carrying for this type of knife?

Thanks in advance.

I use the following:
* Izula in S35VN.
* Bradford G-Necker in Elmax.
* White River M1 in S35VN.
* Spyderco Subway Bowie in LC200N. Sheath sucks for a neck knife. I got an excellent sheath from Eight2Ten.
* Spartan Blades Enyo in S35VN. The cheaper version has a great sheath. The S35VN version that I have came with a sheath that was extremely difficult to draw from. I got an excellent sheath from Eight2Ten.

The Bark River neck knife has a very uncomfortable handle, and two of their sheaths had zero retention, which is kind of bad for a neck knife.

AK knives (Adam Kornalski) makes great stuff. He makes necker/edc knives in different steels. I have a mini Agor from him that is awesome. He lists knives on the for sale section and responds quickly to emails.

David Mary makes awesome edc/necker knives and is in Canada. I have one and another on order (AEB-L). He uses different steels including Magnacut. You might want to touch base with him- super nice guy and knives are top notch.

Chris Williams (Wilmont Knives) makes a great EDC/Necker.

This is my K25 in Cruwear, and has been around my neck more than any other knife in the last 2 decades:

Bradford guardian 3.5 in MagnaCut would be my pick. If you like tangos, I love my TED Grizzlar. I also have a few customs from BGM knives. His edc fixed blades are well priced, and you can pick your steel and blade grind and customize as you see fit.

I'll sell you my Cold Steel Mini Tac Tanto for $200-$300, it's way better than those other knives.

Thanks for advice. I ordered an Izula in S35VN and I really want to grab a Wilmont K25 in the near future.
I've had my Izula for so many years that I never thought to consider they made a new one in S35VN.

I pocket carry a White River M1 Backpacker Pro S35VN and I’d also be happy with the Izula in S35 that you’ve ordered.

I put the extended scales on mine and really like the knife. I am going to get a different sheath, but the knife is great- I think you will be very happy with it.

Another vote for the White River M1. I have the Caper with Micarta scales, but the Backpacker would be my recommendation for a necker, just because it's flatter and lighter. Their heat treatment of S35VN is quite good.

You don't need a super steel to make a superior knife.
