Hi All,

I have an interest in getting a nice quality fixed blade, preferably with a kydex sheath, and maybe 2-4 inch blade.

What do you all like?

I'd need more info before I made up my mind. things like:

1) expected use
2) price range
3) V grind or convex
4) steels.a) Wear resistance a1) high sharpness or a2) long wearing high carbide steels such as S90V, 10V, S110V, , etc. Mostly dominated by powder steels with high vanadium numbers. b) corrosion resistance c) toughness
5) ease of sharpening: for some, this is important. For less experienced, or some specialized uses like bushcrafting it can be important.
6) other: Things like where it's made, W&R, company reputation and other things have an impact on many users.

I could go on, but you get the idea. In addition trial of different types giving experience can mean a difference. You might have a thin knife for filleting fish and want a .25 inch blade for batoning. Or, conversely you might not like the lack of cutting ability a very thick knife gives, or completely hate convex edges, or have to have convex edges. Etc., Etc.

Blade grind, blade steel, purpose, handle materials, price range, style? We need a lot more information to be able to provide any decent suggestions. If you're just looking for lots of pictures of different knives to get an idea of what you want, there's a lot of picture threads on this forum and Google will help you out there as well.

The Mastiff beat me to it, dang!

Esee 3 is a great all around fixed blade in that size range; cuts well, is tough, factory sheath is fantastic, life time no questions ask warranty.

They hold up too, here's mine after 4 years as my hard work and hiking knife.

There are many good fixed blades. But good for what? What do you need?

And what is your budget?

I could suggest many knives.. ESEE-3 is great, already said. I had to think of the Izula 2.
Or the 3-MIL.
Personally I EDC a Spyderco Kumo which is discontinued. Too pretty for hard use, very thin blade.
Cold Steel Master Hunter was also an EDC for me. Very thick blade, not good for every application but very robust and easy to resharpen.
I will get the Pendleton Mini Hunter next. 3 Inch blade, VG-1 steel. Should be good for little tasks. Also kinda thick blade.

I mean thats all only bla bla bla if you don't tell us, what you will need the knife for. 2-4 inches??

Please get us some more information!!!

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe not more that $300 price range. Something I can use EDC, around the house, and maybe camping. Perhaps a thicker blade for prying and the like. I like more tactical looking stuff but not big.

I've been looking at TOPS knives lately. They don't get much time here on BF, and their marketing is goofy, but the knives are quality stuff.

This is the Mini-Pry Knife. Blade thickness is around 1/4". I would say this more toward the pry bar end of the knife-to-prybar spectrum, but you shouldn't have to worry about breaking the tip!

Lot's of people go with the Becker Campanion in your situation:

Blade thickness is 1/4" again, and blade length is 5.25". The high grind makes it better at slicing than the previous choice...

(The Becker is also quite a bit cheaper)

I really enjoy my Swamp Rat Rodent Solution - sexy, sturdy, fits in my hand perfectly and a great size for an all around outdoors knife (unless you're planning to split wood). This + a custom sheath would be well within your price range.

I would suggest you consider a Bob Dozier blade. Most will run you under $300 with many in the $200 area.

I like the Spyderco Moran for a small fixed blade also. Excellent knife for under $100.
