Hi,

I want to buy a Karambit knife - and not for it's good look.

I'm not familiar with karambits (heard about Mantis, Emerson, Fox..) and want to hear some Recommendations before I'll buy one.

I prefer the ones with the "Wave" mechanism.

Thanks

If you want the wave type opening feature then Emerson, Fox, and the soon to be realeased (?) Spyderco Karahawk all feature the patented "wave". Other noteworthy folding karambits would be the Tarani version from 5.11, the new Derespina folding production karambit, Cutters Knife & Tool Bengal Karambit, and the Medford folding karambit.

I don't have a folding Karambit, but I like my Ontario EOD Karambit as a fixed blade. Also look at the Blackhawk Garra 2, but no wave or ring hole.

Cook also makes a couple of nice karambits. I've got a double edge thats an easy carry. Fox's folder is also light, easy to carry and deploy. 5.11's are good heavy duty folders.

I have a 5.11 that I cut my own wave into. For the money, that's a good way to go.

I've got an Emerson (folding) and a Fox (fixed), I'm very happy with both and wholeheartedly recommend them.

I've also played around with the Tarani designed 5.11, and it seems very well made. The only thing it lacks is a wave, which you can solve with a zip tie if you're not mechanically inclined. IMHO, kerambits need to be waved, especially if you use them in reverse grip, otherwise getting the blade open fast is tricky.
